Hi friends , I have started this thread to encourage better use of our technology :)

I will start by asking a simple question .

Can I synch my WORD spell check (MS) with this forum so that when I type an incorrect word it will flag me before I post , I hate spelling mistakes , I still have a niggle that the last thread I started had a bad one (inevitable) .

Thanks for your help.

Hi bro Cyg, i use the browser Mozilla Firefox which has a ton of addons, one of which is a spellchecker addon. When i am typing it flags my bad spelling.

thanks bro , i'll try it , I may have been using that before (on another hard drive) or maybe it was on IE , I don't remember .

Having fun with Windows 7 , Lovelly Jubbelly :)

If you get the google tool bar that has spell check as well, that's what I use.

thanks bro , just reinstalled Google toolbar (better than bing)

foxytunes add-on is great , it now works with youtube , so at one click I can replay some Simon and Garfunkle without having to go back to the web page

If you used Mozilla Firefox for your browser, it has built-in spell-checker. :) And it saves what you have entered if the site glitches while you are posting it.

My firefox does it without an add-on.

Yes there is something worse. Try typing 10 pages of what you hope to post in Word and then getting a virus and having to reformat your hard drive. Lost it all. I couldn't even save it to a cd. Started over and will bow as humbly as I can to the providence of God. I am amazed that I actually remembered most of it. :)

Firefox is great. I'm the laziest speller since I started using it (^_^). No add-on needed. It often saves posts for me too when forums mess up and don't post them properly.

Oooo, J.... get rid of that. Google Toolbar is nasty. It's kinda like a virus in your system. General Google search is fairly benign. But the toolbar is not good to have on your system. Same with the Yahoo toolbar.

Don't have that problem. My Operating system is OpenSuSE 11.1 (Linux).

On another window, i'm currently looking at a virus that i got from one of those facebook renewal/update spam emails. i'm picking it apart, looking at the code. When i get tired of listening to it scream in agony as i dissect it, i intend to terminate it with extreme prejudice. The next virus found 'in the wild' that affects Linux will be the first.

Seriously though, you can install Linux to an USB flash drive, reboot the infected computer into Linux from the flash drive (if your BIOS allows it), save all your old Office files, and burn them to a CD/DVD.

It's a handy tool to have when you have difficulties with a Microsoft system.

If you are posting something substantive, it is best to compose you post in MS Word, save it to your hard drive, and then paste it into the forum's post window. This way you have a copy of your post should your internet connection or the forum's software hiccup.

I create substantive posts in MS Word, and include all the usual bulletin board formatting codes (boldface, italics, urls, etc).

Or Open Office Editor... a Free alternative that works on Windows, Apple, Linux, Unix and I think even Sun maybe Novell.....

You can get it here.

OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite
Tim, i believe that you should mention that Open Office easily reads and writes Microsoft Office .doc format, as well as Microsoft Works, and even the old Lotus WordPro formats. (i really miss Lotus).

Perhaps I should have, but since you did, it would just be redundant now and as I don't work for the redundancy department of redundancy, I shall let it go unsaid.

That is what I was doing. I was composing my response to the thread on Law in MS Word but due to a virus I couldn't even copy it to a cd. I have redone about 7pages of it so far. Still working on it. :)

Another trick I use is to frequently 'CTRL-A' then 'CTRL-C' a long post and thereby copy its contents to my computer's clipboard. That way if anything goes wrong I can 'CTRL-V' the clipboard's contents into a new page.
