I mean,

supposedly he's an appeal's court specialist

has he ever WON an appeal ?

As a criminal appellate lawyer, he has won 13 of the 15 murder and attempted murder cases he has handled, and has represented a series of celebrity clients, including Mike Tyson, Patty Hearst, and Jim Bakker.[2] His most notable cases include his role in 1984 in overturning the conviction of Claus von Bülow for the attempted murder of his wife, Sunny, and as the appellate adviser for the defense in the O.J. Simpson trial in 1995.[3]

Dershowitz has been described by Newsweek as America's "most peripatetic civil liberties lawyer and one of its most distinguished defenders of individual rights."[1] He was named a Guggenheim Fellow in 1979, and in 1983 received the William O. Douglas First Amendment Award from the Anti-Defamation League for his work on civil rights.[18] In November 2007, he was awarded the Soviet Jewry Freedom Award by the Russian Jewish Community Foundation.[19] In December 2011, he was awarded the Menachem Begin Award of Honor by the Menachem Begin Heritage Center at an event co-sponsored by NGO Monitor.[20] He has been awarded honorary doctorates in law from Yeshiva University, the Hebrew Union College, Monmouth University, University of Haifa, Syracuse University, Fitchburg State College, Bar-Ilan University, and Brooklyn College.[1] In addition, he is a member of the International Advisory Board of NGO Monitor.[21]

Well that's pretty disturbing that you would prefer a sex offender. I assume you don't have children. Every supreme court since the inception of the Supreme court have upheld the 2nd amendments right to bear arms. If we take that right away, then we descend into anarchy, all bets are off. Revolution would probably ensue.

My children are grown--no grandchildren yet. But in a state like Florida, a registered sex offender would have such a big bullseye on his back that he'd probably be afraid to leave his house without heavy disguise. On the other hand, these stand-your-ground types are driving around, sometimes with road rage (my nephew had a gun pulled on him after getting into an accident with a truck in Florida--many years ago).

If ever there was a reason to be concerned about the "entitlement mentality" it's because in places like Florida there are people who feel "entitled" to shoot to kill based on their split second individual perceptions. Is there an "entitlement" in the world that cries out more urgently to be denied?

On behalf of Dershowitz, Harvard Law School dean Elena Kagan asked former Harvard president Derek Bok to investigate the assertion of plagiarism; Bok exonerated Dershowitz of the charge.[34]
Although the plagiarism allegations by Finkelstein received the most attention and attracted a lot of controversy, Finkelstein has maintained that "the real issue is Israel's human rights record."[31]

Denied entry to Israel in 2008

On May 23, 2008 Finkelstein was denied entry to Israel, according to unnamed Shin Bet security officials, because "of suspicions involving hostile elements in Lebanon" and that he "did not give a full accounting to interrogators with regard to these suspicions." Finkelstein had previously visited south Lebanon and met with Lebanese families during the 2006 Lebanon War.[55] He was banned from entering Israel for 10 years.[56][57]
Finkelstein was questioned after his arrival at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv and detained for 24 hours in a holding cell. After speaking to Israeli attorney Michael Sfard he was placed on a flight back to Amsterdam, his point of origin. In an interview with Haaretz, Finkelstein stated "I did my best to provide absolutely candid and comprehensive answers to all the questions put to me. I am confident that I have nothing to hide... no suicide missions or secret rendezvous with terrorist organizations."[58] He had been travelling to visit friends in the West Bank and stated he had no interest in visiting Israel. Sfard said banning Finkelstein from entering the country "recalls the behavior of the Soviet bloc countries."[58]

Beginning with his doctoral thesis at Princeton, Finkelstein's career has been marked by controversy. A self-described "forensic scholar", he has written sharply critical academic reviews of several prominent writers and scholars whom he accuses of misrepresenting the documentary record in order to defend Israel's policies and practices. His writings, noted for their support of the Palestinian cause,[2] have dealt with politically charged topics such as Zionism, the demographic history of Palestine and his allegations of the existence of a "Holocaust Industry" that exploits the memory of the Holocaust to further Israeli and financial interests. Citing linguist and political activist Noam Chomsky as an example, Finkelstein notes that it is "possible to unite exacting scholarly rigor with scathing moral outrage,"[5] and supporters and detractors alike have remarked on the polemical style of Finkelstein's work.[1][11] Its content has been praised by eminent historians such as Raul Hilberg and Avi Shlaim,[11] as well as Chomsky.
Finkelstein has described himself as "an old-fashioned communist," in the sense that he "see(s) no value whatsoever in states."[12]

In Beyond Chutzpah, Prof. Finkelstein takes Prof. Dershowitz to task over his own book, The Case for Israel (John Wiley and Sons, 2003). Prof. Finkelstein shows, with meticulous detail, irrefutably, that Prof. Dershowitz, in his book, plagiarized substantial material from Joan Peters' book, From Time Immemorial: The Origins of the Arab-Jewish Conflict over Palestine.

All of this would be enough drama to sustain discussion, but now a new twist in this rivalry has emerged. Prof. Dershowitz has been active in preventing DePaul University from granting tenure to Prof. Finkelstein. Last fall, with Prof. Finkelstein up for tenure, Prof. Dershowitz sent DePaul Law School faculty and members of the Political Science department a letter dated October 3 2006 as a "dossier of Norman Finkelstein's more egregious academic sins, and especially his outright lies, misquotations, and distortions."

According to The Chronicle of Higher Education, which conducted a telephone interview with Prof. Dershowitz on Wednesday, April 4, 2007, Prof. Dershowitz confirmed that he had sent the information to "everybody who would read it." He said he had compiled the material at the request of some two-dozen DePaul students, alumni, and faculty members who were concerned with the prospect of Prof. Finkelstein receiving tenure.

When asked by The Chronicle what he hoped to achieve by sending out the letter, he replied, "Revealing the truth -- all I'm doing is disclosing the truth...It would be a disgrace to DePaul University if they were to grant tenure. It would make them the laughing stock of American universities...His scholarship is no more than ad hominem attacks on his ideological enemies."

Prof. Dershowitz further added in the Chronicle interview, "I think, by every standard, he's worse than Ward Churchill...He's a propagandist, not a scholar."

Prof. Dershowitz's meddling in the assessment of tenure for Prof. Finkelstein has caused grave concerns among the faculty of DePaul University.

In an email message sent to The Chronicle of Higher Ed, dated April 4, Gil Gott, a professor of International Studies at DePaul who is chairman of its Liberal Arts and Sciences' Faculty Governance council stated that the matter had been taken up in a meeting on November 17, 2006. At the time Mr. Gott was not then chair of the council.

According to the minutes of the session, the council voted unanimously to authorize a letter to DePaul's president, Dennis H. Holtschneider, and the university provost, Helmut P. Epp, along with the president of Harvard University and the dean of Harvard Law School. In the letter the council expressed its "dismay at Professor Dershowitz's interference in Finkelstein's tenure and promotion case" and further stated "the sanctity of the tenure and promotion process is violated by Professor Dershowitz's emails."

Finkelstein was not discredited, but was attacked by Dershowitz and Jews who were angered and refused to accept the history on the Palestinian Israeli conflict told by Finkelstein. Also when he exposed how various Jews in Hollywood and media were using the Holocaust for their own profit, it put him in their gun sights.

However, historians credit Finkelstein in his accurate accounts on the creation of the state of Israel, which was ignored and misrepresented in the Western Media, for decades.

De Paul was going to give Finkestein tenure, but with Dershorwitz's threats, he Finkelstein, chose to resign rather than put the university through a costly fight, which they were willing to do.

I suggest you read Finkelstein's works, and his exposure of Dershowitz and how he plagerised word for word, parts of the fraudulent book by Joan Peters on the history of the modern state of Israel.

I also watched the debate between Finkelstein and Dershowitz, and Finkelstein showed just how lacking in knowledge on the state of Israel Dershowitz was.

How Dershowitz wrote a book which became the NYT 's best seller, merely showed how the NYT's and the western media, fear rejecting even fraudulent and plagiarized works, when it comes works about Israel.



Many Jews praise Finkelstein for his accuracy and truth about Israel.

No, it's not my opinion that Dershowitz plagiarized, it was exposed by Norm Finkelstein where he showed entire sections of Deshowitzs book, which he copied word for word from Joan Peters book, From Time Immemorial, which was also exposed as fraudulent.

I bring this up, because it was because of this exposure of Dershowitz, that he chose to threaten De Paul U. with a law suit if they gave Finkelstein tenure.

It just shows the character of the man, and why a Catholic should be cautious about jumping on any of Dershowitz's band wagons.
