• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was wondering where is the best place to find Al-Anon support here at CF?
Until going to a day treatment center for depression, I didn't know much about Al-Anon, or that I could benefit from it.
Growing up with an alchoholic dad, and other relatives, including a brother-in-law who lives next door, and now my oldest daughter from what I can tell...I really could use some online support here.
I was told I have co-dependancy issues from it too...and the "people pleasing" part of me stems from it as well.
I also have other issues, but that would be for other areas of this part of the forum.
I look forward to replies.

Hello,

You may be able to find Al Anon support on this wonderful forum. But I saw your post and wanted to interject another idea too.

Please don't forget that you probably have Al Anon meetings where you live and IMO 12 step programs and any other counseling really is better when you can do it in person.

If you are homebound or there are no Al Anon meetings in your town perhaps in the vicinity you might find some.

If you can't get to any then there are online Al Anon meetings. Just do a search on Online Al Anon Meetings and it should lead you in a good direction.

Al Anon is a fantastic organization the helps build the person up that has been hurt by living with alcoholics. I know many people who have benefited from A.A. and Al Anon. God bless you on your road to recovery.

Thank you for your reply :) I am going to one that meets in the next town over on Friday nights. I've been 3 times so far and have learned a lot. I see me at different stages when others are talking..either the child or the (now ex) spouse, or the parent. I also picked up 2 devotional books from them as well that I'm really enjoying reading and am getting a lot from too.

I'm not housebound currently, when some health issues pop up I have been. But I was hoping to find something here at CF where I could touch base with others when I have questions or thoughts.
I didn;t know there were on-line Al-Anon groups...thank you for letting me know. I'll be looking one up in a few minutes.

In general I'm a bit of a mess, but I know where it all stems from, including some of the health issues.
Actually the online might help in a few other ways as well if I want to ask about something but would be embarrased.
Thank You :)

One thing I've learned from life both personally and professionally is whether we choose to admit it or not, everyone is in a bit of a mess. And if they manage to survive without problems or illness, everyone gets something sooner or later. Don't know what this board offers in terms of 12 step recovery. Haven't seen anything on that here. But you're welcome to email me if you have a quesions or something you want to talk about. Have you gotten a sponsor yet?

Faithfully,

((((Dee)))) thanks hon! I didn't see the 12 step area, and I'll look into the other as well.

Sacerdote..I wasn't sure that the Al-Anon did sponsers too. If so, then there is already a warm and also Christian lady who has been chairing the one I'm in for over 25 years. So I'd ask her in a heartbeat as she also took me under her wing :)
Thank you for the answers, sorry I took a few to get back after the holidays.
