Here is a link to and FBI bulletin from March of this year. It mentions that there are online networks that are potentially targeting underage victims and manipulating and grooming them over time to do self harm and in some cases even commit suicide, often at so called "watch parties" that are live streamed for the members of the group. Other times the victims are encourage to commit various crimes and film it for the group. It is extremely disturbing. The groups are classified as "Nihilistic Violent Extremism (NVE)."
The bulletin has some recommendations towards the bottom.
In this article from NPR a mother talks about discovering her son was a victim of one of these groups. Though the criminal are in or a part of one extremist group or another their motivations towards there victims are sometimes quite individualistic. Some of the crimes the victims were encouraged to commit were acts of terrorism. Although not specifically mentioned in the article I have read some the the NVEs may even be using AI tools to further their agendas.
