  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The virus is terrible, but if people only had sex after marriage and only with their marriage partner, AIDS would have no effect on the human population ---- and that is the simple fact of it.

Promiscuity of at least one partner is certainly a major issue; but in all fairness, injected drug use is also a player. The remaining portion is very small comparatively.

Well, I am not telling an adult he/she cannot have sex, because he/she isn't married. You've gotta be realiztic. People have sex...

By the way, same gender couples can't get married in so many countries.....

True, but even the small risks have to be ruled out!

Free clean needles is a way to avoid it......Give drug addicts free clean needles and use that contact to help them to see that there is a life possible without drugs...

Sorry, but Drive them to the bar but don't help them drink isn't in my philosophy.
I can't support the free "clean" needle program.

More needs to be done to educate people that condomes help prevent the spread of this terrible desease! And more money should be placed into developing strategies to educate people about the spread of the disease and how to treat those who have the illness, as well as developing a cure for it!

This may be doable in western society but hardly in many third world countries (at least not A and B!)

True...

I agree...but we have to start somewhere. You have no idea how stupid young people can be. Girls who think if they know the guy for three months they trust him completely and only think about how to avoid to get pregnant, which results in using the pill.....nice thingy, but it doesn't prevent AIDS. And I know this because I have given sex education.

In some Africa countries men rape young girls, cause they think that having sex with a virgin heals aids......

We have a LOT of work to do......

I just hope we pray for all those poor souls that are infected and being treated like outcasts and dirt, cause that happens still....and not to mention the fact that we in the western world keep all the meds that can keep so many people alive.

Cancer must be healed as well, but these people are not treated like lepers (not by most people).....that doesn't mean that I don't care about cancer. I care a lot. I lost friends to that disease as well...

If you find such a clock for cancer on the net, by all means, place a link!
Thank God many people with cancer can be healed. HIV kills 100%. We can only slow it down!

Until your child holds a dirty needle in her/his hand he/she found on the street or wherever...Not all people live in clean safe neighborhoods

It isn't only for these people. They can give their used needles 'back' to be destroyed....No more dirty needles on the streets

One can find this attitude not only in Africa, but also in Asia and Latin-America.

That's one of the main cause for the spread of AIDS in many underdeveloped countreis - men taking women against their will! People being ignorant about how AIDS is spread and why it is so important to shield against it in any way one can.:sigh:

No need to tell me. I might be white, but my color didn't give my mother money when I was growing up in the poorer part of town.
IOW - I suggest listening to that same advice and not assume all of us had a silver spoon throughout life. I don't have to wait to see my child in a bad situation when I can look at my own milestones of childhood in reflection.

A program of disposal I can support; but as for the intent, proposed assertion, etc. in that last statement, that isn't exactly a true statement now is it?

We still have dirty needles showing up where those programs function and many injected drug users aren't exactly the model of "responsibility" that would be required for the assertion to produce. Granted it may cut down a little, but it also adds the enabling and support from the public. Perhaps a good intention, but not a solution. I still pass.

How do you combat thinking like this? Reason obviously has no play here.

Well, I am not telling an adult he/she cannot have sex, because he/she isn't married.

OK, God will do it for you in His book.
1Co 7:2 -
Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.

You've gotta be realiztic. People have sex...

So too, they need to be realistic and understand the ramifications of sex before they take on that responsibility. Pregnancy, STD’s, emotional issues…..

Obviously 3rd world countries have a rougher go of it, but I find little excuse for ignorance in America. I would think, no facts here, that most Americans who are sexually active know how to avoid the above issues. They are too caught up in the moment to care.

Emotional issues? Adults who have sex on a saturday night (concenting adults I mean!) have sex on a saturday night. They do not break down in tears over it on monday morning...LOL

So, Condoms is the way to prevent all these things. Say to people to have not sex is not realistic. Even to teenagers. I know that because I worked with them and talked about sex with them. Of course I advice not having sex is the best way, but if they have sex better let them know how to use and where to get condoms....

I understand....sorry...I didn't mean you don't know. But for disposal you have to give something back for them to do so. I know it is NOT the best solution, but what else would you suggest to prevent more of them becoming infected. At such a place they can be helped and educated as well. Don't you want all people to live good lives? Drug addicts are treated like outcats and I believe that will make thinsg only worse...

But I do not know another solution. If you know a better one...please!!!

None? Hump and dumps are not always enjoyable for both parties. People, typically down gender lines, tend to have different views as to what is happening. This definitely leads to emotional issues. Being used, feel dirty, feel rejected. I admit this is not always the case, but I think it is not to be laughed at either.

Say to people to have not sex is not realistic. Even to teenagers.

I contend that it is not viewed as realistic. It is physically possible albeit difficult. I would also qualify my view by saying I did not wait until marriage, so I am not on any false pedestal here.:preach:

Agreed. But anyone under 18 should not be instructed on such matters without the consent of a parent or gaurdian.

Total aside IOW = ?

My solution would be what the church are doing now. Reach out, inform, take in, help clean up, help them place one foot in front of the other, comfort the victims, etc. That template goes beyond just injected drug use, but it is also a template that the government (or at least mine) can't "back" or compare in kind.
The premise that the problem will disappear if "we try hard enough" isn't one I buy into... not when there is freedom to do the wrong thing.
