Hello everyone,
I am really needing some input/advice etc. on Baptizm (like the process). I've been a saved christian for a long time now, (drifting in and out at times) and recently really renewed my faith and I want to take this a step further. I have done basic Baptizm studying and I know what it is and what it generally stands for. Lately I have given up some sinful ways and really feel called to do this at this time in my life but I dont know if I should do it just yet.

There is an upcoming baptizm at my church and the person who is doing it said they really wish someone would do it with them so they don't have to be alone, and when I heard this it just kind of kicked in that someone should be me. Just an hour ago I found out it's my aunt who recently gave up all her old ways and has taken courses and etc. and is on her way to a fantastic christian life and it seems all the pieces fit.

But I'm just not sure, I know I want to baptized but I don't really know exactly what happens? My real only issue with it is I'm horrible in front of crowds and don't like a bunch of attention on me etc. but for my Lord I would overcome any fear so I'm not too worried.

Basically my questions and area of needed input are, what do you feel Baptizm stands for? and does anyone have an opinion on if I should just trust this calling and go for it or maybe wait a bit longer?

Thanks in advance and God bless

Dear colderintherain-

First I want to let you know that Baptism is not a calling but a commandment of obedience. It is somthing that you are doing to confirm to the church and to the world and the Lord that you have committed your life to Christ or been born again.
If you keep your focas on doing this for the Lord, then it should not be too hard to stand up for HIM.
I have to say, it was the most wonderful expierience for me. IT is not somthing that I waited on. I wanted to do it right away. I am so excited for you! It is awesome! My husband and I were baptized on the same day.

This is somthing that you are doing for the Lord. You are standing up and saying........HE IS MY MASTER, I have accepted him and I have been reborn!
DON"T WAIT........DO IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

colderintherain, I would do it. The church pastor should be explaining what is to happen and to ease your concerns. If you are concenred about being in front of crowds, you can just keep your eyes on the one baptizing you. But remember, those observing will be rejoicing. :) No need to fear them.

Is Christ the Lord and Savior of your life? Have you already put your trust in Him for your salvation? If the answer to this is yes, then yes, you should get water baptized as an outward show of your inner faith. In God's Word, after they trusted in the Lord and accepted him, they went and got baptized to show that they had Jesus and to testify of their belief in Him to the rest of the world. Yes, I say you should do it.

God Bless,
Frankie

Water baptism is a physical representation of the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. You are alive (standing upright) you die (immersed in the water) and you are resurrected unto life (raised out of the water). Physical baptism, then is a picture of spiritual baptism, as defined in Romans 6:3-5.

Spirit-baptism is the one baptism, according to Ephesians 4:5, that places or immerses the believer into the "body of Christ", according to I Corinthinas 12:13. This effectively brings about the supernatural transaction described in the Bible as the "new birth" (John 3: 1-7 and Galatians 3:27, 28). This results when you call upon the Lord (Romans 10:13), and He answers your prayer of faith (Romans 10:17 and Ephesians 2:8-9).

Water baptism, then, aside from getting you thoroughly wet, demonstrates obedience to God publicly (Matthew 10:32), shows outwardly what took place inwardly, and gives you an opportunity to obey God. According to Galatians 2:21 and Titus 3:5, it does not help you get to heaven! It does not save you. It does not cleanse original sin. It does not protect your children from going to Hell. It shows a step of faith of obedience and what happens when you are saved. It is also a testimony to others of a changed life.

Lovely sentiments, all.

Believers baptism is a beautiful thing. I could not wait to be baptized after I was saved. It was a huge step for me, but I felt as though it was the best way to honor Him with a public profession of my faith (as well as being obedient to His word).

I hope you'll seriously consider this act of obedience.

I personally feel that the phisical act of baptism is very much a personal & spiritual thing, not something you just do to have it under you belt, so to speak--not something you do to "fit in" or to keep someone else company. My experience with baptism is unfortunately tainted, but I hope for your sake that your church will give you the best possible experience. I suggest that you do some real soul-searching, and may your decisions be as solid as the Rock on which we all strive to build on.

Every person that Jesus called in the bible, he called publically. And he said that if we are ashamed of him before men, he will be ashamed of us before his father.

But, in a church, everybody will celebrate in thier hearts when they see you get baptized. Because it represents how our old sinful selves are buried in Christ, in his death, and how our new selves are ressurected. It and symbolizes how we have risen in Christ to eternal life (Col 2.12, Rom. 6.3-6, Matt. 28.18-20).

I am also in the process of getting ready to get baptised and like you was a little bit confused about it's real purpose.
After a bit of research and discussion I understand that it is my public declaration before man and God that I repent of my past sinful life and that i now belong to Christ.
I feel like it is the final stamp of approval in my becoming a servant of God, that I emerge as a new person with a new life.
I am the shy type and so was a bit concerned about the fact that it was to be done before the whole congregation but then when I realised that if I confess the Lord publicly He will also confess me before his Father in heaven and that gives me plenty of courage.
When I got called the only thing i could think about was that I had to get baptised! As soon as possible!! I contacted some churches and they all said I had to do like 6 week course but I wanted it done now, afterall in Biblical times people were often converted and Baptised the same day!
So I finally got 'directed' to a Baptist church and they asked me a couple of questions and then said ' pick a date' and we'll organise it!!
they are even going to hire out this tiny beautiful old stone church so we can have the service there...they said, I could even pick some music if I wanted! How cool is that!
