• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi! As for many of you, your ocd is probably getting worse now in quarantine. For me its been getting alot worse since the last 2 weeks. I've been in contact with a therapist lately but it's gonna be a while till I have regular appointments and treatment so for now that isn't a big help.
I don't know how I'm gonna keep this up for so much longer, my ocd is giving me so much depression and anxiety, it's hard to even get up out of bed, life doesn't feel worth it at the moment(I'm not gonna do anything, don't worry).
I wish I could just go into a hibernation till the quaratine is over because it's unbearable for me.
It's mostly my religious ocd and blasphemous thoughts that are getting worse, which always seems to happen while I'm in a isolated state. How are you guys dealing with this in the quaratine ?

Just want to say hi from Den Haag.
Can't you do a bit of daily cycling?
(maybe i shouldn't comment, i now nothing abut OCD)
Hi fellow dutchy! Yea I try to go out of the house and take walks and go outside but for me it's really the lack of structure and also the fact that i spend so much time in my own head just thinking which makes my OCD obsessions worse. School and work is really necessary for me to feel okay. And you can ofcourse comment ! Its okay if you're not a ocd expert haha. Thanks for your comment!

So i guess you need structure, like a daily list of things to do,
and distraction from your own thinking, which would normally be school and work.

I hope this darned Covid thing is over soon.
This is going to drive people nuts if this continues.
The lock down may turn out to be worse than the disease...

Good luck, curlycurl.

Thank you! I'm gonna have to really fight to get through this but I'm going to do my best!
I wish the best to you too in this quaratine that will hopefully end soon.
(Bedenkt me nu dat we Nederlands kunnen praten hier maar ik denk dat het iets netjeser is Engels te praten zodat iedereen het kan lezen hihi)

'Another non OCD expert' here !

May I suggest doing Facebook calls with friends to provide contact and can you email your teachers/lecturers for school work and some sort of structure.

I can say set your own structure, but I know how difficult that is, having said that do set your alarm to go at your normal waking time, do get up etc.
Only you can keep to a routine. If you are still living with your parents they will help..

I know it is not easy you can do it to form a simple routine of get up, go for a walk or do exercise, then an hour's work, have a break, do another session of work, break, research old exam papers and work at them, either doing or revising to do them . Another session of exercise or trip out to do shopping and repeat.

I have OCD as well.

In my experience, OCD feeds off of two things:
1. stress
2. fear

If you break the fear with a compulsion, your OCD will shrink and either go away, or find something else to torment you with.

If you're under intense stress, your OCD will feed on that and go haywire. UNLESS, you can get yourself into a focus.

So some thoughts that might help - if you can find a hobby, even if it's just going grindcore on a video game, it helps a lot. If you're entirely entranced by something, your OCD won't really have any avenue to start emitting thoughts.

Other ideas - programming, music, art, may be good. Maybe even math problems if you're into that kind of thing. There's digital art programs (GIMP, InkScape), free programming guides and utilities (Rust book, rustc, Visual Studio Code), all kinds of resources to help keep you entertained.

And of course, the most stress relieving thing I've ever done is give my worries to Lord Jesus. There are times I've just gone and prayed and prayed my worries, and I came out of that room a new man.

I would absolutely highly recommend getting on an anti-depressant if you can. They sometimes take a bit of time to work, but when they do - it's night and day.

Being busy definitely helps keep my mind off OCD! I don't know if I have any concrete tips to offer, though. :) I think some of the suggestions people have already given are good!
