I'm predominantly Scottish from both sides. There is a bit of Irish and English mixed in, but only one German great-great grandfather in the lot that we know of.
We are Lutheran by choice and logic, not heritage.

Mostly German with some Slovak.

A Slovak Lutheran congregation!

The SELC District of the LCMS was originally the Slovak Evangelical Lutheran Church (later called the Synod of Evangelical Lutheran Churches). It merged with LCMS in '71.

I'm mostly Irish with a little German on my mom's side, and mostly German with a little Mexican and I don't know on my dad's side.

Found about the Mexican part 4 years ago. My grandma claimed to be half Castilian Spaniard and half "Robertson." She said her mother came from a prominate family in Mexico from Spain. After she died, we went to visit her sister, my great-aunt, in Las Vegas a few months later. She told my husband and I stories about suffering discrimination growing up because they were half Mexican. Huh? I asked, and yessiree, I have Mexican blood - about 1/8, I reckon. Funny, my skin is so pale I wear the lightest shade of makeup foundation and my eyes are blue. I guess the German/Irish side of me is most prominent. I do have a never ending craving for "authentic" Mexican food and tequila drinks, so maybe there's something there...

My maiden name is German, and my married name is German. Ironically, my first name is Latin. Hmmmm. Husband is full German on his dad's side (he has cousins still in Germany) and Welsh/Cherokee on his mother's. Where he grew up is almost predominately German descent.

I think it was my maternal grandfather's parents that came from Lithuania. . .but maybe it was his grandparents. . .wish he could remember. . .that came from Lithuania. My maternal grandmother was German. Thus, my mom is half German and half Lithuanian.

My paternal grandparents were mostly German (well, my grandmother is still alive) and I know my dad said that he had a grandmother (or was it great grandmother) that spoke only German that died when he was 5 years old.

Yeah, wish I knew more about my heritage. . .or er. . .HAIR (*grabs hair*) a tage ;) than I do. . .but at least I know some!

Duh! I forget about that as it was before I joined any Lutheran denominations. I was raised Presby, then joined an LCA church for a few years and when met and married hubby I joined the LCMS. My mother was raised LCMS but joined Presby when got married, my grandparents were thrilled when I married a man who was to become an LCMS Pastor as 3 of her 4 children left the Lutheran church.

My siblings have gone many different directions which makes things interesting.

Flipper, you have blue eyes all round. The Castillian background would give a tendency toward blue eyes as well. Did your great Aunt, or Grandmother, have blue eyes? That would lend creedance to your Grandmother's claim as well. If she were a Mestiso, or crossed Mexican, her eyes would have most likely been brown. The Mexican families that have claim to Spannish or Castillian roots are exceedingly proud of it.

You know, there was a saying my mother would quip from time to time. She would smile wryly and say, "My dear, you can tell a German all you want... But you can't tell them much."

I like your Mother.

My Nana had green eyes, LOL! Aunt Jo had brown eyes (she passed away last month at 97). However, the few black and white pictures of Mama Sita I have, show her with lighter skin, but black hair and dark eyes. I don't know. My dad has blue eyes, but a completely different shade of blue than what I have.

My eyes are shaped like my mom's, and the shade of blue is the same as my grandfather on mom's side (mom has green eyes).

Sounds like you are going to need a physical therapist.
