  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Adam and Eve's son, after killing his brother, was marked by God for people to see. I've heard some argue that this does make sense with relation to special creation, because Adam and Eve may have had countless more children that we didn't here about. However, in light of modern science, I have a theory. Many people will claim that either Adam and Eve are purely allegorical or that they represent a group of people, because the human species was never just two people. These theories certainly make sense, but you have to understand the definition of human in a biblical sense and in a biological sense. There were probably never just two biological members of the human species, but the Bible defines humans as those created in his image. Because God has no body, he must mean their minds and ability to interact with Him. This may mean that Adam and Eve were simply the first people who God decided were ready for Him to reveal Himself to. They were the first "animals" that God would begin to hold acountable for their sin. And sure enough, Adam and Eve chose to create their own morality by eating the fruit.

The child that counts is Abraham. The Hebrews (Israel) descended from Abraham and Sarah. The Arab Muslim nations descended from Abraham and the Egyptian Hagar. IF Cain had children does not matter as far as the Bible is concerned. The scarlet thread has to do with redemption. The genealogy runs from Adam to Jesus through David. It is Jesus through David that has the legal right to Jerusalem. During the 1,000 year reign of Christ He will return and we will rule and reign with Him for 1,000 years.

Brilliant! Yes, that makes a lot of sense. It's an interpretation that is true to scripture, and also consistent with everything we know from science.

That's pretty much what many Theistic Evolution supporters already accept, and it has been affirmed by the most recent three Popes as well. I've posted this description before:

Remember that there is variation, and that mutations are in individuals before they spread to the rest of the tribe. So as the whole community gradually evolves from ape to human, whatever arbitrary characteristic is used to define "being human", one individual will be the first to cross that line – including a line of “God divinely creating a soul” in one. Of course, all humans will be descended from him, just as they are all descended from others as well. Think of that mayflower club, which only allows members who are descended from the few people who came over from Europe on the mayflower. That club today has thousands of members, and in a few thousand years or so, literally everyone on earth will be descended from those on the mayflower. The same holds true for an individual, so long as they have a few kids. Thus, if you have a few kids, it is very likely that in a few thousand years, literally everyone on earth will be descended from you as well. It's all a mix. So, a literal Adam can be consistent with the evidence we have.

In Christ-
