  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am in agreement that abortions are a bad thing, as far as banning the practice, that is up to the government alone.

I particularly think it's a terrible thing, and totally rephrensible for the method of birth control. I believe to save the mother's life, it is a different story. But, I don't get very involved in the study because I don't believe that my opinion can be as valid because I don't have the ability to carry a child and really have no way of knowing the emotional turmoil a woman making the decision must go through.

Banning it would cause serious problems:

Women would not stop getting abortions, just getting abortions in hospitals from registered doctors. A friend of my mother's died from a coat hook.

It also wouldn't stop rich women from getting abortions, they could just fly to another country.

I'm against banning it, but I'm also usually against it in principle too.

I'm all for banning it, with the very rare exception of when the life of the mother is at stake. I realize that there will be some that run out to do it anyway, but that is no excuse for not banning it. The child has done nothing wrong....Why Kill it?

Not to worry though for those that support the killing of unborn babies. If / when Roe vs. Wade is overturned, it will not make killing unborn babie against the law. It will be turned back over to the states. That tells me that there will still be states that allow the practice of killing unborn babies.

The government has ordered your execution. Please fill out these forms and take your government-issued pills to tell you what is truth and what is not. We value our mindless slaves, and mind our valueless slaves.

All reasonable people would agree that terminating a healthy pregnancy may be very questionable, morally speaking. But I don't think a fetus is legally a "person" with rights independent of it's mother. And I don't think that the act of becoming pregnant automatically mandates a woman give up autonomy over her own body. She still maintains, at least up to a point, the right to consent to how her uterus will be used. As bad as abortion is, allowing the state to criminalize a private medical decision between a woman and her doctor is worse. I think I'm pretty conservative (but I'm a libertarian, which is a true conservative.) I don't trust big government, and this is one area where I don't want government interfering.

And anyway, restrictive laws aren't even necessary. Western European countries have low abortion rates, yet early term abortion is legal and easily available. The way to reduce abortion is by voluntary means--education, enlightenment, and promoting conscientious use of birth control.

I love when people do that...ask a question in response to a question...Shows that they can't answer the first one. So I'll ask it one more time: Why are woman allowed to murder and men are not?

Because men's lives aren't in danger of becoming enslaved by another human beings thereby forcing them to share their biological resources and exacting unwanted physical harm.

Physical harm? From what? The woman who feel they are becoming "enslaved" stems off from their irresponsibility of unprotected sex and not being prepared. Our immaturity gives us no right to commit a crime.

You aren't aware that a woman's body is severely stressed and can be permanently harmed from pregnancy?

And now we see your true reason for wanting to ban abortions...
Pregnancy is punishment for those you believe to be sexually immoral.
What about women that haven't been what you consider sexually immoral? What if she was raped?

Abortion stance is simple...
Are women just as deserving of the same civil rights as men?
If yes, then they shouldn't be enslaved to another human being.

I'd rather pick cotton for 9 months than carry an unwanted child to term... and that's not even mentioning 18 years of financial enslavement to come afterwards.
