If you think abortion is morally acceptable, why didn't you vote for 'the entire duration that the child is dependent upon its parents?'

Surely if it's ok to kill one's own child, the obvious cut-off date should be the day the child leaves home and lives independently in every way. For as long as the parents are supporting the child financially, or providing it with shelter and food, they should have the right to kill that child if they suddenly decide that don't want it. or maybe if that child becomes ill. or a burden.

I'd agree with that and would say that abortion issues are not all black and white.
I used to feel that even someone who had been raped had the right to abort and I still do, but there are other ways. (I.E adoption)but it is a decision the woman will have to live with as well as being violated, not a nice thing to go through IMO.

The only time I disagree with abortion is when the woman blatantly uses it as a form of contraception after the fact and didn't take precautions in the first place.

I voted for only when the mother would die, and I should have gone for 'other'.

I would consider it acceptable only when the mother would die, the child cannot survive, and as a result of rape.

Never as a lifestyle choice.

That would be sad for people who love their families and friends.

But for people who hate their own children / family members and want to kill them, an extended abortion policy would be preferable. It could even be extended to dependent adults. Old people and disabled people could be legally killed if their guardians choose to do so. Unemployed people, and people with illnesses which make them dependent upon the state, too.

I voted for the second option, but that's only my opinion. I believe abortion should remain legal because I think outlawing it is just a quick, easy way to deal with the problem. It'd be better to address the root of the problem (not enough sex-ed, not enough good parenting, not enough support for teenage/unwed mothers or those who end up with a surprise pregnancy they don't know how to deal with) rather than just make abortion illegal.

Abortion should always be an available option in cases of rape or incest.

I am undecided as to whether abortion is ethical if it would mean the mother's death if she carried it to term. Since late term abortions are generally considered unethical, I would say only if it is early on in the pregnancy and only if there is no doubt that carrying to term would mean certain death for the mother.

I am staunchy opposed to "partial-birth" murder.

Nearly every other excuse for an abortion would be from selfishness, and no ethical doctor should perform this procedure if theres no good reason.

If you don't want your baby, give it up for adoption so someone who wants one but can't have one, can. Otherwise, it was your choice, and its your responsibility.

Generally speaking, I find abortion is most often just a way of not taking responsibility for doing something stupid.
