  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Besides, if you come up with that argument, than they should have their tubes tied if they don't want kids& still want "sexy time".Also, one can live without sex .
Please don't make blanket generalizations when you're 14 and haven't experienced very much of the world.

I never said I think it would be better off dead, again, I don't like abortion in any case but rape, but I know I can not make that decision for others, and no one else can. however, I wouldn't stop anyone from making abortion illegal.

edit:
I also admit I was wrong about wat it comes down to, it also depends on whether you think it is a life or not.

Why do so many people say it is the right of the woman to murder her child??!!?? Abortion is wrong period! Any thoughts?

That you should read over this list of fallacies and reformulate your arguments so that they are logical. :)

Women not in control of their bodies? If they are not responsible enough to to take care of a child; they should of contimplated that before they went and had sex!

Really? So are you now blaming rape victims for their own rape? You are blaming a 13 year old girl who was raped by her uncle for that rape?

Again, you should read up on logical argumentation before you start debates concerning important social issues. You should especially read the short article concerning the appeal to emotion.

In my personal opinion, the zygote created in the fertilization is a unique human genome, DNA and all. In my opinion, this is more then just potential human life, but it is human life, albeit living through it's mother.

Case in point, When I worked as a EMT, I'd often get called to check on homless people living under bridges. Now, I offered them assistance, becuase they were human beings. I'd clean their cuts, bandge them up, etc, etc. With the same line of reasoning given by Peaceuponnus, I could have said, " These bums don't contribute anything. Why waste my skills and materials helping people who won't help themselves! They'll just continue being poor. "

What is your opinion of the Ayn Rand argument? I'll try to summarize, if clumsily:

  1. A fetus is in the womb of a woman by her permission, which can be revoked.
  2. There is no right to live inside another person against their will.
  3. Rights apply to human beings. A fetus is not a human being "as it has no means of independent physiological existence (as does a baby, child, or adult)."

No, in no way am I blameing chidren for their own rape. Rape is terrible, and comes with mental torture. But, when it comes to living with shame & having the child, or living a more happy life, & murdering the life that was created, I'd choose the first.

:help: I'm having flashbacks to when I was a 14 year old Catholic who thought the survival of non-sentient blastocysts at the expense of innocent womens' health, life, liberty and happiness was one of the most important causes in the world.

That's fine. Next time you become pregnant from rape feel free to make that choice. Just don't expect others to make the same choice based on your personal feelings.

Now, if you have some rational arguments I would love to hear them.

I am pro-life. I don't think that abortion should be used over and over again as a form of birth control, however for a little girl that has been raped and becomes pregnant against her will and is too young to understand what happened to her or to carry a baby or to give birth to a baby then I am not going to say that she can't have an abortion. I have 2 little girls and I can't imagine them having to go thru a pregnancy and delivery when they are still babies themselves.

I also don't think that anyone really has a right to tell someone what they can or can't do with their bodies. I am not for abortion and I believe that it is morally wrong in some cases and goes against the word of God, but I have no right to tell someone they can't do what they want with their own body.

Instead of condemning these women and girls we need to love them and pray for them instead of making them feel like they are scum of the earth. God forgives all of us for our mistakes and he can forgive those who have had abortions as well if they seek him.

No you aren't. You're pro-choice. Pro-life means that you want to legally force women to carry a prenancy to term.
I'm not sure that's quite fair. As for me, I'm both. As I said in post #2, I think abortion is terrible. But not as terrible as outlawing it.

Odd way of looking at caring for another person. Any person. Especially your own child. But I guess some look at it that way. They have their own needs to see to (granting that caring for children and realizing dreams are incompatable. I don't believe they are but, once again, each to their own. Who I am to judge?)

You're not anyone to judge, because you have your own needs that you are trying to force on others (ie, your need for women to stop having sex or else face the consequences).

Well, you go ahead and live with your shame then. Just don't expect anyone else to make that same choice.

Just out of curosity...what makes a 14 year old boy even think of such things? I've always wondered what it was about abortion that attracted so many young men to the cause. Out of everything out there it's probably the one issue they will never be effected by. Or did I just answer my own question?

My take: They just can't quite tolerate the idea of women having any kind of sexual control.

Probably, yes. For me personally it was mostly down to the particularly strict stance Catholicism has on abortion, and the huge amount of emphasis it puts on the issue. Because of that, many 'pro-life' groups deeply embedded in the Catholic community use, or often abuse, emotions very powerfully.

For me it was when my girlfriend thought she was pregnant that made me think about abortion at that age.

YES IT DOES EFFECT ME! Boys are aborted. I just hate murder of any kind. Abortion doesn't just effect the woman, it effects the life of a real living child.
Abortion isn't murder.

You're still forcing your views onto someone else.
