abortion good or bad?

I am against abortion in all cases except one--if it would kill the mother to carry the baby full-term (that accounts for very few abortions; I think it's less than 5% of all abortions performed in the US)

Just FYI, I have a friend who has a inverted uterus, the only condition that docs used to say would mandate a abortion due to the mothers's life being endangered. While women who have this problem certainly have a problem with getting pregnant and it can cause problems, now with surgery these women can not only conceive, but can deliver very healthy babies. There is a new (about 5 years old I think) procedure that can actually correct this problem. So now the reality is this: there is no reason for a woman to have an abortion. Just thought you would want to know. God Bless You.

I am against abortion in all cases....killing is killing is killing...if you are against it for one reason...you should be against it for all other reasonings.

anyone ever consider that when someone does not want a baby they call it a fetus but when they planned for it they call it a baby?

Hey everyone...I just thought that since this is a thread about abortion, i'd put in my speech i did about it for youth of the year in my area. I chose abortion because I am strongly against it and wanted to share my views. I hope you enjoy it Here it goes:

Life or death; who chooses? During the past century, abortion has joined race and war as one of the most debatable subjects of controversy in the Western World. In all of the wars Australia has participated in during history, approximately 32,000 Australians have died for their country. Monuments have been built and speeches delivered, honouring these patriots. Now we are engaged in a war with no heroes, no monuments, only victims. Our society has declared war on our unborn children. Last year alone saw over 59,000 pregnancies aborted in Australia.



Abortion has been incorporated within society for centuries. Under current legislation in South Australia, abortions are legal until the 23rd week of pregnancy, but there is much debate over the ethicality of this practice. Going back a couple of generations, society held different values than people today. Premarital sex was scorned upon, so adoption or abortion was seen as a way of avoiding shame. The child, if it survived the pregnancy, was given to a foster family to raise and never grew up knowing its biological parents. Babies were also aborted if the family couldn’t afford to raise any more children.


In this day and age, sex before marriage has been accepted into society and more children are being born out of wedlock in comparison to 100 years ago. This change in society has also seen the rate of abortion increase. This could be attributed to a variety of factors. The rate of teenage pregnancy has increased, people want smaller families and raising a family has become a lot more challenging financially.



I believe that the teenage abortion rate shouldn’t be as high as it is. We are being educated at school about safe sex and there are many contraceptives available for women of all ages to use, which are proven to be highly successful.



In earlier generations, families were larger than the average family size today. Take my father for example. He is one of seven children and his father is one of eleven. Family sizes have decreased due to the rising costs of upbringing a child. It is also harder now because the modern family unit has both parents working. However, this should not be the cause for abortion because there are preventatives like the pill, the morning after pill, vasectomy and condoms that people can use to ensure no more children are conceived.



Because of the birth decrease, the government has become concerned of our ‘aging’ population. This may be one reason why the government is now offering $3000 incentives of parents to have children. Hopefully this incentive will also help encourage those thinking about aborting the pregnancy to carry the child to full term and raise it.

I believe that the government should provide more support to mothers considering abortion. They should be encouraged financially and psychologically to proceed with their pregnancies and give their infant up for adoption.


Because of abortion, adoption rates have decreased. There are many infertile couples that want to have children but have been unable to conceive their own child naturally, or with IVF and are waiting on long adoption lists for a child. I believe that if mothers who don’t want the unborn child, carried the foetus full term then adopted it out, then these families desperate to have children would be given to the opportunity to raise a child. One person’s ‘burden’ can be a miracle for someone else.


There are three main cases where I think that abortion would be acceptable. The first is when the mother’s life is put in jeopardy during the pregnancy. The law states that if the mother has a high chance of dying while giving birth, there is no other alternative but to abort. A case where the foetus is developing in the fallopian tubes would be an
example of this. I also believe that if the baby has serious deformities and won’t survive birth, then abortion is a feasible option. Lastly, if a child is the result of a sexual assault, then carrying a child full term and raising it would be emotionally and psychologically damaging to the mother, which may also mean that the mother’s life is in jeopardy. If a mother decides that she can’t cope with raising a child conceived from a rape then she may be overcome and commit suicide.


The rate of abortion is increasing as the number of unplanned pregnancies rises. The cause of this is the disregard of contraceptives. Some pregnancies occur even when contraception is used. There is only one contraceptive proven to be 100% successful. The best contraception of all is abstinence. If a person feels responsible enough to
participate in sexual activity, they should also feel responsible enough to deal with the consequences that follow.

The chance of getting pregnant during rape is very small, as one's body goes into shock, so I don't think abortion is acceptable in the situation of rape either. Just because the circumstances surrounding a child's conception isn't anywhere near ideal, or pleasant, doesn't mean it's any less entitled to live the life God has given it.

I was raped and was pregnant, i decided to have an abortion, i changed my mind 2 days later after goign to church adn our minister was talking about the uniquen ess of life and so i cahgned my mind (but then i had a miscarriage) i think that people could just give the bab;y up for adoption if they dont want to keep it.

i was justifying my "have an abortion" decision by thinking that it was less then six weeks so it wasnt a rael person becuawe the brain hasnt develped properly...

Have (except Belinda as she has shared her story) any of you ever been in the situation where you have had to make the choice whether to continue a pregnancy or not?

Until you have, none of you have an idea what a woman goes through and you have no right to judge.

She does seminars now but I don't see her actually ok with talking about it,she feels inner sadness even though she went on to have me and my siblings.Adoption is always available unless of course the person is concerned about their reputation over a childs life,i suppose for them-they see no alternative. i know that if i aborted a child, i would feel guilty for the rest of my life also. I'd never be able to stop thinking about how my childs life would have been like if he/she was born and how i had killed somebody so innocent.

That is more than in the Holocaust. More than in African nations recently. More than almost any other plague, genocide, senseless killing. But, hey, as long as it's not my body, it's okay. SHE can do whatever she wants. We are living in a post-modern world!

Now you tell me, is the senseless killing of God's creation okay? Not in my world. When I got pregnant with my daughter, I was that poor kid with not a whole lot going for me. Five years later, I'm married to a wonderful man, have two beautiful babies and we own our own home, two cars and a lot of great stuff. Successful by worldly terms.

Spiritually, I'm so close to the Lord, closer than I've ever been, and I'm helping to lead young girls to make smarter decisions than I made.

In short, being a poor girl in the city doesn't mean you're going to be a failure, it simply means you have to get mean with what you've got and ensure the Lord's on your side so you can succeed in becoming that great Christian God wants you to be!

Many children have grown up from tough circumstances to better their condition and go on to serve the Lord and make positive contributions to society and those around them.

Let's turn your question around...does a child conceived in the circumstances you describe deserve to be executed?

Ok...here is my opinion/story

I was born on January 24, 1973...just a couple of days after roe v. wade was passed. I was born to a 16 or 17 year old girl, who has no idea who the father is...and there is even the possibility that it could have been a close relative. she gave me up for addoption. I do not know if she ever thought about abortion as an option...kind of afaid to ask that question. personally I could not have one for any reason... unless you count a D&C as one..it kind of disturbed me that the paper work called it a missed abortion. the baby was already dead when it was done. I don't think it should be illegal...my reasoning are that there would still be people getting them, and they would not be done in the best of conditions. I believe that there should be stronger provisions before one is done. a 48 hour waiting period, mandatory ultrasound so they can see the baby's heart beating and such, detailed information about the process should be read to the person...so they understand just exactly what is going to happen to that baby with a heartbeat. As I said earlier I personally do not think I could have one...but I do understand in the cases of rape, incest, life of the mother, and ectopic pregnancies. however if it is a case of rape or incest I believe that charges must be filed before the procedure is done. I do not agree with it being used as a type of birth control, and I think partial birth abortions should be made illegal. I do believe it is murder, but I am not going to hate someone because they got one or thought about it, if I knew someone who was thinking about it, I would do everything I could to convince her to give the baby up for adoption, these days you can even pick the people you want to raise your child, and even have limited contact with the child if you wish.
I have been married for 8 years,and we have one child right now, his name is Robert. he was born April 17, 2001 (due June 20th of that year) he is my treasure... I can not imagine my life with out him. at 5 months along they realized that there was some sort of problem...I had three times too much fluid. and was measuring full term. as far as they could tell the baby was fine...there were no obvious signs of defects. but we were blessed because other than a very mild case of Cerebral Palsy he is a happy and health 4 year old (that weighs in at 48 lbs now...far cry from the 4 lbs he started out at.) last year I found out I was pregnant in April. my husband and I had been separated (not living together, but we still spent time together). I was so excited...he was getting into the excitement a bit to, then when I went to my first dr's apoinment they did an ultra sound. I saw the baby, but there was something wrong...I knew it...it was like looking at a still picture. the baby had died a couple of weeks before. I was devastated... they don't know what happened there either...

ok I don't know if any of this makes any sense to any of you... but basically what I am saying is I believe it is wrong, I could never do it myself(haven't been put in any situation yet where as I would have to make that choice...and pray to God I never am in a situation like that) I don't believe that it should be illegal, just more strictly regulated and more information given before it is done (because there would be countless numbers of back street abortions being done if it were made illegal (I know there are probly people in this country that still have them, but it would be more prevalent if it was made illegal), and those would not only kill the baby, but might kill the mother, and or prevent her from having wanted children later... NOT that I agree with it being used as birth control), I can understand to some point wanting one in cases of rape, incest, or life of the mother...but I believe all options should be explored before an abortion is done...

who is going to say abortion is good? great even? a slim, slim, slim minority, and probably folks who haven't even gone through that experience!

I think it's "bad" but I also think that the people who get abortions aren't any worse than myself or anyone else. in fact, i wish there was a better way of serving those who have had abortions or given children up for adoption or even young mums who feel lost and rejected.... we need to love on these ladies!!!!
