  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I agree with junkyarddog.

I am against abortion, unless both lives are threatened by the pregnancy, if both lives will get lost, it is better that one life is lost, and the other saved.

I am also against the death penalty

You can say Nope until Judgment Day. The fact is you and those you despise only defer in terms of the conditions underwhich you would allow an abortion. Pure and simple.

The facts are that what is done under these circumstances is 1) not an abortion, and 2) morally justified as a defensive action.

And who makes that distinction?

The removal of a tube may be done for many reasons unrealted to a tubal pregnancy. Any serious, unresolved infection there could endanger a woman's life -- calling for its removal. That is not an abortion. The removal, in a tubla pregnacy, is not INTENDED to kill the child, but has the UNINTENDED consequense of the death of the child. Moral theologians of the Judeo-Christian stripe for 4,000 years have distinguished between intentional deaths and unintentional deaths. God's Word confirms this distinction. When someone deliberately takes the life of an unborn child it is a murder and a different matter than when there is a "choice of evils" -- in this case, the death of BOTH mother and child, or the survival of one. There have been rare instances where a mother has continued a tubal pregnancy long enough for the child to survive, but costing mother her life. When one has an abortion for other "causes" -- for instance, the "health" of the mother or "cannot afford it" -- she is rating her personal, non-life-threatening needs above the LIFE of another human being. That is murder.

I'm pro-choice. Legal abortions are better than back alley ones.
Agreed.

I think abortion is terrible. But we need to keep people from killing themselves and causing grievous bodily harm to one another attempting back-alley clothes-hanger abortions.
It's like safe rooms where heroin addicts can shoot up. It's a humane solution to an inhumane problem. So to speak.

We need to keep it legal, but work to reduce the need (or believed need) for it.
