The DTP (Democratic Tea Party) is alive and well. AOC personally scuttled all the work of the mayor and the governor. 25K jobs just one train stop from Manhattan was not acceptable. The city was "paying" too much in incentives. Of course, most of the "payments" were a reduction in taxation of the new production.

Well, the problem is now solved.

Perhaps the 25K jobs will be moved to Arlington consolidating HQ2 as originally proposed. Perhaps, Booker will be able to move fast enough to get AMAZON to come to Newark.

AOC had this to say:
Allan Smith on Twitter

I'm finding it difficult to disagree with that. We throw billions of dollars to megacorporations like Amazon to entice them to maybe grace our city with jobs, but we can't afford excellent health care for everyone? We can't afford to pay teachers more?

Our priorities are pretty skewed in this country, which is why we're so lucky to have AOC, Tlaib, Omar, and many others in the House Freshman class.

I love how some politicos fall over oneself to benefit a wealthy corporation and the handwringing begins when one considers doing anything to benefit the poor.

25000 jobs go a long way toward helping the poor.

So does $3 billion that can be used to clothe and feed them in preparation for getting a job.
Why should they get a job when AOC wants to pay them even if they are UNWILLING to work (Green New Deal)…...

But that isn't part of the socialist goals - it has to be government or no one. On top of that - Amazon is not Union friendly and that meant millions of dollars not going into union coffers to support mostly Democratic candidates and causes.

How many of them are going to the poor now?

About the same. Amazon is looking to build a headquarters, not a distribution center or some other blue collar worksite. There will some low-skill, low-pay jobs like security or housekeeping, and some blue collar jobs like maintenance, but most of the work would be way beyond working class wages.

Don’t think for a second the “poor” will benefit. And most of theses jobs will be automated within a decade.

Don’t get me wrong, these are good paying jobs, creating demand for Podiatrists and high end work shoes. I live in an area where Amazon has a distribution center and know some of the “concrete pounders”.

That certainly has a lot to do with it.

But if you look more closely at what's happened, an entire city has been destroyed. Or in this case an entire city has been aborted. Those 25,000 Amazon jobs are not merely 25,000 Amazon jobs. There would have been 25,000 Amazon workers, but also their families, meaning roughly 40,000 people in total. All of them will stop at Starbucks for coffee, local delis for lunch, they'll stop at local corner stores, dry cleaners, etc., representing another countless number of jobs for those "supporting" the original 25,000 Amazon employees.

Those tens of thousands are less than the populations of thousands of towns across the country. Imagine how much economic activity is involved in building and maintaining a town that size. That additional town will now not be built. But it will be built, just someplace else, and some people other than the constituents of the politicians that killed it will benefit from it.

Those jobs are not going to anyone by highly educated programmers, none of who know what being poor is. If they are lucky, the poor will be hired by a contractor to sweep the floors.

So what is to become of the poor kid who's been struggling to get through college to become a programmer?
