  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A statement about theistic evolution

I posted this as the last paragraph in a thread on the science forum, but since it is a statement about theistic evolution and one of the reasons I believe in it, I thought it more appropriate here:

I think about the overwhelming power of the everchanging life-cycles, the ability for creatures to adapt in great and dramatic ways to better fit into their environment, and I am in awe. I feel the power of God much more dramatically in the idea of macro-evolution than I ever could in immediate special creation, followed by minor changes. My God is definitely not so limited that He can only allow small "inter-kind" changes. I believe He can, and did, develop a process SO POWERFUL that it can take a mouse and eventually evolve it into a mammoth. THAT is power. THAT is awesome. THAT is Theistic Evolution.

Of course, God is perfectly capable to do that. The question is: did he? You might not limit God, but I limit myself to having God tell me how he did do it.

Right, but the question still remains whether Genesis 1 and 2 was an attempt at all to tell us HOW and WHEN He did it or rather just telling us the WHO and WHY. And when looking for God telling us how He did it, we also need to realize that God speaks through His very Creation itself. When the evidence of God's Creation and God's Word in the Scripture seem to conflict, then either our human interpretation of God's Word or our human interpretation of God's Creation is at fault.

When the issue was whether the Sun revolved around the Earth or vice-versa, it turned out that our NEW understanding of God's Creation, as discovered through naturalistic methodology, was correct and our understanding of God's Word was in error.

Given the evidence, I just think it is very, very likely that the same is true regarding evolution and an old earth.
