As for me, I will hold fast to what God's Word has said regarding "truth".

"Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." John 14:6 (NASB)

(Bold emphasis mine, but the scripture remains unaltered.)

May God bless you and all others who read these forums. I pray for the salvation of everyone who has not yet accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior, and I pray for a closer walk with Him for those who have accepted Him.

"Truth" in context of Christianity means telling the truth vs telling a lie about God, since only God can define truth then Jesus, believing He was God incarnate, spoke boldly and exactly the truth that He had come to know first-hand from God.

John 18:37 (New International Version)
37"You are a king, then!" said Pilate.
Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."

So according to Jesus, anyone on the side of truth "listens to me", therefore He has made a distinction, anyone not in agreement with Jesus is not "on the side of truth".

Yes, God is the original and absolute source of truth, the devil is the father of lies (John 8:44).

I do agree, God (the Christian God) is absolute truth.

That doesn't mean that God has to exist, but rather that if He does then He is truth.

We need to associate 'truth' with 'about what'. Truth without a subject is just a virtue. There must be something that we need the truth about. I think that most if not all Christians are very reluctant to receive 'new' truth, that would broaden their understanding. Anything apart from traditional belief, doctrine, and dogma are viewed skeptically, as error, or at worst heresy.

Yes I believe that God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit is absolute and perfect truth. Why? because I have never been disappointed by Him, let down by Him or hurt in any way by Him and I have never found anything He has said to me to be untrue. He is what He says He is and does not swerve from that.

Hi Blackbox, you cannot get your head around perfection because we are not perfect and therefore sometimes find it difficult to see anything as being better than we are. Your last comment is a start

I don't. At least not in the context you gave us that "truth is an aspect of God Himself". In that context, the statement reduces to "God is God".

That doesn't tell us anything. For the statement "God is absolute truth" to mean anything, then "truth" has to be something separate from God. We have to compare what God says and does to "truth" and see if there is a correspondence. At least one poster in the thread has done that and says that what God says and does has always been "true".

BUT, does that mean "God is truth", or does it mean "God always does and speaks true things"?

God is love. That is the ultimate truth. He draws people to himself via that love. In some ways many people missunderstand God, infact we probably all have misunderstood God from time to time. As an example when people rejected the message of Jesus in his day the disciples said "should we call down fire from heaven and consume them", Jesus said "You do not know what spirit you are of", meaning they were listening to satan, not God. If we have a judgmental view of God we need to revaluate those thoughts and return to one of loving others. I have to admit I have been guilty of being Judgmental, I just pray I can keep my mind free from the subtle pull to be condemning, to one of understanding Gods love for others. As the bible says there is none good but God. God wants all men to follow after his love, and does not delight in the death of one who seperates them selves from God. Right now there is no one alive who God would not pardon if they would only repent of their ways and desire a relationship with God. Hell and death are not made for men, only through their own stupidity do men end up in hell. God is truth, as the supreme ruler of everything he has layed down what is true. But the truth is he loves you right now, and will not alter that love. Only you can seperate yourself from that love.
