I am starting a short dry fast, with no food and no water. I will do it for 3-4 days. I am doing this primarily to get nearer to God and to be more sensitive to His voice. I also expect improved physical health. Anyone wants to join me for mutual encouragement? You may do water fast of course.

Well, I would ask anyone attempting a fast, where are you on your everyday life with God in fasting? If you are used to over-eating, or have addition issues or have never fasted before, I would not recommend a complete fast, even for 3-4 days. Not because I say so, but because of how God has guided me.

If you are really so non-attached to not feeding the sinful nature and the body, then I pray God blesses your endeavours, and that you become closer to God through this time. Sadly, I am not there yet.

LaSorcia, I have been doing Christian fasting for years, sometimes more diligently than other times. I have done short dry fasting numerous times, but not regularly, only when I feel a special need. I also did extensive research on how to dry fast safely before I embarked on my first dry fast.
I normally eat very healthy food as an act of worship to God, because I respect my body as a holy temple of God the Holy Spirit. I stay away from junk food easily by the grace of God; so I will say I don't have food addiction issues, if that is what you meant.
You may join me for one day, or one meal, of water fast. Each small step leads to the next step of success. Discipline is cultivated day by day, not born overnight.

I am in my 2rd day of dry fast, by God's grace. I have felt short periods of mild hunger. I don't have big temptations to eat, probably because my body is already consuming fat, which suppresses appetite. I followed a FAST DOCTOR's advice to eat high-fat food (only McDamia nuts) for 18 hours before my dry fast, which is supposed to help my body consume fat for energy and miniminze hunger sensation during the fast.
Thirst is very bearable. I read that on the first day of dry fast one should ignore sensation of thirst for it will subside on Day 2 or Day 3. I don't have other detox symptoms. I remember years ago when I did my first 5-day water fast I suffered serious back pain. I think not many toxins are in my body now since I have been eating super healthy.
I have surrounded myself with spiritual entertainment so that my dry fast is enjoyable. I believe a strong joyful spirit can quiet the cries of the body.

DAY 3. I give all thanks to God for having been sustaining me so far. I have unusual peace in my heart. I am enjoying great sermons while I lie listening on my bed.
Last night my house heater was working all night and my mouth became very dry. Today I turned down the heater and humidified my house a bit. Then I felt fine.
Today I have felt tired all day long. I fixed simple meals for my family and crawled back to my bed. Otherwise I am OK. No other detox symptoms. But I know toxins are coming out fast, because my mouth is rapidly filled with bitter taste. Rinsing my mouth with cold water not only gets rid of the bitter taste but also feels delightfully refreshing.

I did dry fast for 3 days and 20 hours. I give all thanks to God for having sustained me. I also thank God for speaking to me during the fast.
During the last half day of my fast my mouth no longer tasted a bitter taste. This may mean that most of the toxins in my body were expelled. I also felt long periods of hunger. So physically it is a right time to break the fast.

I admire you for doing a fast like this, when fasting is so uncommon nowadays. I am working towards a water fast, but I have a long way to go.

Would you mind talking about how it affects your relationship with God, both during the fast and long term?

How did you begin fasting? Do you think all believers are called to fast?

How did God talk to you? Is it different from the promptings and guidance that we get from the Holy Spirit in our daily lives?

Thank you for any answers you can provide.

I think fasting increases our sensitivity to God's promptings because we set aside a time to focus on hearing from God. Besides, fasting is difficult, so we have to cling to God every hour of the day in order not to surrender to the body's cries, which deepens our relationship with God. As we cling to God with our heart, we also experience the sweetness of God's presence, which lures us to go to God even after the fast.

I started to have more rapid heart beats after doing 2 days of dry fast, which means I felt weaker, although i did not feel thirst. I decided to conclude the fast at 2 days plus 8 hours. I am grateful to God for speaking important personal messages to me. I feel an intensified hunger/urgency to seek God with all my strength.

During my two short dry fasts in December, I received precious messages from God concerning my personal life/ministry, I feel encouraged to do short dry fasts more regularly. I will post my dry fasting experience in the coming months to help keep myself accountable and to encourage fellow Christians to fast to draw closer to God.

I am 22 hours into a new dry fast. I think it is a blessing to welcome a new year with fasting.

Day 2
On Day 1 I had an off-and-on slight headache. Otherwise I have felt fine. Energy was very good on Day 1 and has been OK today. I got much done these two days. I give all thanks to God for sustaining me. I had fleeting moments of temptations to eat. The moments passed as I focused my thought on God.

I would never fast from water, for health reasons alone, without medical supervision. You can live unharmed fasting without food once in a while, but it's hard on your organs to go without water for more than a few days.

Dry fast is dangerous only for a toxin-rich body. It is the best (health-promoting) thing one could do for a healthy body. (Well, I guess walking with the Lord with one's whole heart, drinking in His life, all the moments of the day, should beat dry fast.) I do suggest that one do a thorough research of this subject (as I did) before attempting a dry fast. And one should not attempt a dry fast before she could do a prolonged water fast (5 days in my case) without any detox symptoms. A toxin-rich body could die in one day of dry fast because too many toxins rush out.

I concluded my NEW YEAR's DAY dry fast after 56 hours. The physical part actually was quite easy. The challenging part is the emotional need, which the Lord helps meet. I give all thanks to the Lord. Will come back for another DF in January.

Hi there, and a happy new year.

Let me tell you of my experience.

When I have abstained from food, I have done so with a view to making my other activities that went in its place the main focus. Like Bible study and prayer. In fact, I didn't really think: Look, I'm fasting! this is what I'm doing.

Rather, I focused on the Bible reading and prayer.

My 2c. :)

Can you explain more the difference between dry fast and water fast? I've fasted for about 24 hours with no food and no water and felt the beginnings of a urinary tract infection. So, I drank water. I am more accustomed to fasting with no food but still drinking water.

What are some good resources on the subject, since you say to research?

Thank you so much for the help.

Hi there! and a happy new year!

I read what you wrote; I don't think the Lord means us to damage our health in fasting.

It seems to me that the point of the abstaining is to make way for other activities which are profitable, rather than for the sake of doing the fasting itself.

I can understand the need for, e.g., weight loss, of course.

Basically, dry fast encourages more toxin-release than water fast. It is also easier physically (less hunger sensation) if you have an almost-toxin-free body. You may start by reading from the following website. Unfortunately this website is no longer active. But still much good information is there. Please pay special attention to the posts by FAST DOCTOR and Milena. Fast Doctor gave much valuable professional advice which is not to be ignored if you value your life. Milena gave advice specifically on dry fast based on her conversations with a Russian dry fast doctor. For instance, the way to break a dry fast is different from breaking a water fast. Do balance her advice with the Fast Doctor's views.

Please do a good research before you attempt a dry fast. I do suggest that you do not attempt a dry fast before you could do a 5-day water fast without any detox symptoms. God bless you.
