I've been sharing my journey into Catholicism with my mother and she always tells me to 'check the Scriptures please' as in that I have to verify everything I believe with scripture.

How should I respond to that?

Dont forget to applaud her for her devotion to Scripture. I would give her a patt on her back for chewing on the word of God, but remind her that its only one half of the revealed truth.

The early Christans didnt have a NT like we do which means that prior to the canonization of Scripture they all lived within the Tradition.

This tradition did only partially get written down as we find it in the bible, the rest of it we find left as tradition.

Sometimes something was so established practice among the early fathers that they didnt even see the need to write it down. Besides with pergaments and papyrus writing excessively just didnt happen due to high costs.
