  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

a question

ok im in this debate at another forum.

and this christian said she believes in evalution. and i want to know. is it ok to believe in evalution if your christian? i thought christians believed in creation, and im confused. because if u didnt belive in creation wouldnt u be considerd non-christian because your basicly not believing in god, and his word and how the earth came to be....
could u explain to me, i dont know, im not christian(please dont gripe at me).

I am not christian either, so I will just say what I have read here:

evolution and science are agnostic, they do not care whethere there is a God or not. Theories like creationism (the theory that God created everything directly in six days, as a literal interpretation of genesis would give) has been falsified. however theories like evolution have not been falsified. One can be a christian and still believe in evolution since all these things tell you, is how god created, as opposed to whether god created.

Creation and creationism are different things.

Someone who believes in creation, believes that God created (often believing that Evolution is the way he created animals (including humans)).

Someone who believes in Creationism believes that Evolution is wrong and that god created and only allowed changes within "kinds" and not between "kinds"

As Jet said, Evolution is agnostic, and so is science. We have no way of knowing if God used evolution or if it happend on its own. Christian Evolutionists just believe God used Evolution to create.

Yep. Some say there is an age of inoccence where you will go to heaven if you die within this age. This would include people who never heard the word of christ, and those that have mental retardation problems that prevent them from understanding.

However, others believe that if you dont accept Jesus, you go to hell. No Matter What.

Or, in other words, what Jet Black said. :)

Most Christians accept evolution, it's just in countries like America that creationism is more popular, but even still creationists are a small minority.

Cristians, with few exceptions, believe in creation, but not necessarily creationism. Creationism and theistic evolution are simply different means of creation, and both are generally considered orthodox Christian theology, at least by those who understand evolution.

Regarding your question about original sin and the innocence of children: topics like these can be discussed in a number of fora, including philosophy and morality, general apologetics, and questions about Christianity, but I'm afraid it's off topic here in the science forum.

I've been doing a lot of reading on this too...

Here's a site to check out, that should be included in your itinerary. http://www.creationequation.com/EvolutionismsFlawsandHoles.htm

There's "evolution" and "evolutionism", "creation" and "creationism", incidentally. Still reading, myself. There's just so much I don't know.

Thats a good site to show how creationist groups dont understand evolution or a majority of science.
I stopped reading after they got the big bang wrong, and tried to pretend that Abiogenesis was Spontaneous Generation (two different things). Skimming through, they also messed up Entropy and pretty much everything else they talked about.

I actually did a search to see if they talked about the Landover Baptists (a Sign it might be a hoax) but I never found any, unfortunatly.
