Hi guys. I am also in favor now that JTB was eating insects, and not carob. With last years locust invasion in Israel, and the people feasting on them, this strengthens my view .

Here's more to help consider:

In Luke 15:16, the prodigal son is longing to eat carob pods (from the locust tree). The same thing JTB is said by some, to have eaten.

Luke 15:16
Luke 15:16 He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.

Holman Christian Standard Bible
He longed to eat his fill from the carob pods the pigs were eating, but no one would give him any.

English Standard Version
And he was longing to be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him anything.

King James Bible
And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

Commentary :
Verse 16. - And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. So low was this poor lost man reduced, that in his bitter hunger he even came to long for the coarse but nutritious bean with which the herd was fed. These swine were of some value when fattened for the market; but he, the swineherd, was valueless - he might starve. The husks in question were the long bean-shaped pods of the carob tree (Caratonia siliqua), commonly used for fattening swine in Syria and Egypt. They contain a proportion of sugar. The very poorest of the population occasionally use them as food.

Back to Locusts --
Matthew 3:4
Matthew 3:4 John's clothes were made of camel's hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.

(2) girdles were frequently very costly (cf. Smith's 'Dict. of Bible,' 1:701). Every part of John the Baptist's dress was for use, not ornament. And his meat; food (Revised Version); τροφή, not βρῶμα. He cared not what he ate, but what nourished and supported him. Was. The right order of the words (ἡ δὲ τροφὴ η΅ν αὐτοῦ) lays slightly more stress on the continuance of this mode of life. Locusts. Used for food in the East from the remotest times until now. Four kinds are permitted in Leviticus 11:22. "The wings and legs are torn off, and the remainder is sprinkled with salt, and either boiled or eaten roasted" (Meyer). They are mentioned in Talm. Bab., 'Ab. Zar.,' 4:0 b, as being sold after preservation in wine. The word ἀκρίδες forbids the identification of these locusts with the pods of the carob, or locust tree, such as the prodigal son would fain have eaten. It seems that Jewish Christians of Essene and therefore vegetarian tendencies read ἐγκρίδες (cakes) here. Such at least is the most natural meaning, accepted by Epiphanius, of a quotation which he gives from the Ebionite Gospel according to the Hebrews (vide Tischendorf, in loc.) (On the theory that John the Baptist was an Essene, cf. Bishop Lightfoot, 'Colossians,' p, 161, edit. 1875.) And wild honey. This apparently simple phrase is, notwithstanding, of doubtful interpretation.

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible
And his meat was locusts and wild honey; by the "locusts" some have thought are meant a sort of fish called "crabs", which John found upon the banks of Jordan, and lived upon; others, that a sort of wild fruit, or the tops of trees and plants he found in the wilderness and fed on, are designed; but the truth is, these were a sort of creatures "called locusts", and which by the ceremonial law were lawful to be eaten, see Leviticus 11:22. The Misnic doctors (c) describe such as are fit to be eaten after this manner;

"all that have four feet and four wings, and whose thighs and wings cover the greatest part of their body, and whose name is "a locust."''
For it seems they must not only have these marks and signs, but must be so called, or by a word in any other language which answers to it, as the commentators (d) on this passage observe; and very frequently do these writers speak (e) of locusts that are clean, and may be eaten. Maimonides (f) reckons up "eight" sorts of them, which might be eaten according to the law. Besides, these were eaten by people of other nations, particularly the Ethiopians (g), Parthians (h), and Lybians (i).
and his meat was locusts—the great, well-known Eastern locust, a food of the poor (Le 11:22).

I don't know if this is true but I have read an article that most Satanists are vegetarian because they believe that the animals were not involved in the original sin that was committed by Adam and Eve. it makes me wonder if the devil does not have an agenda with vegetarianism. I find moderation is key when it comes to meat eating. I also saw a clip of Miley Cyrus where subliminally she was promoting vegetarianism, if it is such a good thing why promote it subliminally? Around the globe it seems that vegetarianism are being promoted even in big Companies. My concern is that we know that Jesus was slain as a Lamb for our sin, generations to come will think that our Heavenly Father is cruel for allowing this sacrifice and the devil will have his way with our children not accepting the Lamb sacrificed for our sin. I don't know but Vegetarianism does not feel all good to me. In terms of health, moderation is the key. Sometimes when going vegetarian, people tend to make sure that they eat the nuts and grains and all those essential stuff to have the diet more balanced but when eating meat, some do not even worry about all the other important foods that we need as part of a balanced diet. Studies were done that SDA refers to indicating that Vegetarians lived longer but other studies also indicates that meat eaters can also live as long with a well balanced diet. Sometimes I look at SDA men that are vegetarian and I feel so sorry that they are so thin and look so starved. Cant we just do what Jesus did and eat the fish and the Lamb? I would like to follow my Jesus' example

Interesting thought!

There might actually be something to it. Nowadays, the killing of animals is depicted as very cruel and many vegetarians claim that they do not want to take any part in it. If people have been conditioned to believe such a thing they might also regard God as cruel as He ordered the israelites to kill countless animals because of some rituals. - What a foolishness!

Of course the example Jesus has given is being downplayed by the SDA church... people who eat meat are very often looked down upon by vegetarians or vegans, especially when they speak up and stand for what they believe (meat eating). Of course meat eating is not a believe, neither is its abstinence. But in the SDA it is part of journey...
