i dont really think that the similarity's wer on purpose since the creator of the story of zelda , the triforce, etc was japanese and as u might know there aren't many christian japanese in japan.Vulgivagus hagiographus said:Hello, I'm new! Yay, starting a new thread for my first post. I'm so bold. Anyway, I would like to get an oppinion from some of my fellow Christian Zelda fans, specifically Ocarina of Time (though you might be able to help with knowledge from other games). I don't know about you, but while playing the games, I've noticed what might be taken as parallels to Christianity in them. One big example would be that in the games for the original NES, Link carries a shield with a cross on it. Now Ocarina of Time goes deepest into the theology of Hyrule, and they state that the universe was created by three goddesses, one representing power, one wisdom, and another courage. This seems to me a sort of Trinity parallel. One thing that comes to mind is what I call the "Zelda theology verse," Jeremiah 51:15 (NIV): "He made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding." Also, the fact that Link has the Triforce of Courage dwelling in him to help him in his task makes me think of how the Holy Spirit dwells in us and gives us courage.
Anyway, I'm not really asking if that's what the game was actually going for, since it would be close to impossible to know the makers' real intent. What I want to do with this parallel is write some fanfiction that could reach a Zelda audience but have Christian lessons in it. Do you think this is too much of a stretch? And how far should I go with it and what alterations or additions might I have to make to the religion to make it work? I think it's a good thing, but I have trouble calling God, "she" if you know what I mean. So to use one of these fine smilies,![]()
But...what is so wrong with a female God? It's a fictional story.Vulgivagus hagiographus said:I've decided. I'm making the deities male. Horray for me!![]()
And if anyone has anything against it.... well, write your own story! This is my story!
Well, maybe I would care if you came up with a REALLY GOOD reason for me not to, but I doubt it.
What I meant by saying I'm using male dieties is that I'm going to use God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit how we know them in real life.morningstar2651 said:But...what is so wrong with a female God? It's a fictional story.
Wouldn't fan fiction about God be more offensive/blasphemous than fan fiction about a game?
I'm confused...I don't see your logic.
If you're still cheacking this thread...i have only played the ocarina of time and it took me 3 years to beat.. and the magic stuff is a tough issue. It isnt like he is chanting spells... he does sword stuff with the potion and is healed by them.... but nothing really spells or witchy.... i want to play all the other zeldas but my parents bought me a ps2 instead of a gamecube...oh well...
