I understand exactly what you mean, Tier. I actually do intend to write original allegory in my future, but this is a sort of practice for my writing skills, and will also be a good message. It's also a more pointed audience. If I were to write practice original stories, for one, I would have used up that idea so that it would not be able to published, and for stories posted on the internet, I believe a person is more likely to read something that is connected to something they know and enjoy that a random piece by an unknown amature. Besides, I also think it will make people think when playing the game. Already people in this thread have stated that just from reading a simple cropped down parallel. Thanks for your insight! I completely understand, but I want the practice on simpiler pieces before trying to publish a crummy novel and ruin my professional image.

I agree, I noticed this as well. I've been noticing a lot of themese with a Christian theme, Matrix, LOTR, Zelda, and some other ones I can't remember off the top of my head.

Wind Waker did not really have anything that relates to the Bible from what I can remember though.

I've played the NES & SNES Zeldas, so what I know on the series is probably dated, but anyway...

The thing about the Triforce being compared to the Trinity doesn't work, though. The triforce is a generic source of power/magic that either the good guys or the bad guys can get a hold of and use to their ends. There's no comparing the triforce to the Christian God. God is not a "force" that's used.

Plus, Link seems to have a habit of getting assistance from witches...

Only in the very generic sense that these games acknowledge a supertnatural element to the universe beyond our senses would there be any comparison to Christian theology. Except in the zelda series all of the supernatural elements, good and bad, are of a pagan nature.

While on the subject, I wouldn't recommend using games/movies/etc. for evangelism, because its likely the unbeliever will just equate Christianity with other works of fantasy and lore. At least when I was an atheist that's how I felt about it.

That's my 2 cents, anyway.

I've decided. I'm making the deities male. Horray for me!

And if anyone has anything against it.... well, write your own story! This is my story!

Well, maybe I would care if you came up with a REALLY GOOD reason for me not to, but I doubt it.

Well, now it's even different from my last post. Oh well, it's making sense to me, so I guess that's all that matters at the moment. Perhaps if it ever gets written you'll see my nifty Christian integration into the story.

Anyway, that's more about writing than the game, so I'll be quite now...

From a random source I heard that in the Japanese manual for Link to the Past, it had a picture of Link praying to a crusifix. I think there is reason to think the Zelda games at least at one time had Christian influence.

As for my writing situation, that's solved, but we can continue this thread talking about possible religious significance in the Zelda games. I really think there are quite of few interesting things in it.

Possible religious implications only affect Zelda stylistically imo, don't think Nintendo would allow overtly Christian elements into their product. Like, the Temple of Time in OoT kinda looks like a medieval church. How I see religion affecting Zelda.

Dunno what to say about the manual thing, a pic would be really sweet, though.

OOT is the best Zelda I've played, as well as my favorite game of all time. I noticed the Triforce/Trinity parallel, but I only thought that maybe it was just my intpretation. However, you've found some concrete stuff that really links them together! Before bed I'm gonna look up that verse in my Bible and probably mark it.
Although Ocarina of Time is definitely an excellent Zelda game, I'm not sure if it's my favorite or not. I'd have to say it ties with my other favorite Zelda game: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

I ran across this thread and was pleasantly surprised to see that there is a person or two besides myself who has pondered this subject, or the link between these two subjects. Can I add something?

Just for fun, I wrote an essay about insights and comparisons between the gospel and the idea or symbol of the triforce. You can find it on my (small) website. I can't post a URL yet because I'm brand new here, but if you'd like it, send me an email: nathan000000@yahoo.com.

It's a light-hearted piece, not to be taken too seriously. Still, I think it may have the kind of insights being sought in this thread. I am a Latter-day Saint (Mormon), so some of the beliefs or references may be unfamiliar to you, but there are several commonalities I think you can glean. Please, take a gander.

Hi! I'm new here. This is my first post.

Anyway, I was once a BIG Zelda player. And don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to enforce my own convictions, just wanted to give a little information, one believer to another.

Now, I must say the ideas coming forth in this forum are quite interesting, even though I've noticed some things myself. However, I do not feel it's a good idea to compare games like Legend of Zelda to something Christian. I do have good reason behind this, as I speak from personal experience. Several games, one of which is Zelda, can cause the players to be drawn into something far deeper than just the christian aspects of it. I personally was drawn into black magick by playing games like Zelda, Final Fantasy and the like. Again, I must say that I do agree with what many of you are saying, as creation can never stray from it's creator. However, I just see it as unwise to draw players into playing such games as these, for the simple fact of where playing them can lead. (Just a friendly word, no offence intended)

On another note (and sorry to get off topic) but does anyone remember the old christian games from NES like the Bible Story games and Spiritual Warfare (Spiritual Warfare outsold Zelda at one time)? My friend actually was able to dig Spiritual Warfare up recently, and I, as an aspiring game designer, was sort of wondering what happened to all the fun christian games??? Where did they go???
