  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do Atheists believe that suffering is wrong. When I say that, I mean, do you see a starving, diseased, much help needed community in a third world country and not like it?

I see that and I do not like it.

Is rape and murder a bad thing?

Give me a context and I will tell you my preference.

Are there things that just shouldn't be done by humans?

Please answer that, but tell me why, as best you can.

No, there is nothing that 'just shouldn't be done by humans'.

This is because we always have a context for our actions. We do things for reasons within that context. In other words, in order to say, 'Thou shalt not' you would need to provide a reason why people should not. And because we operate for reasons within contexts, absolute statements of 'should' and 'should not' are nonsense terms.

Look at 'Thou shalt not murder' for example. Murder is 'illegal killing'. But who defines what is illegal? We do. In some cultures, government sanctioned killing is legal; in others, it is not. Both are following the 'thou shalt not murder' rule; both are doing completely opposite things.

NO, I say to myself: How many jobs could we export there?

Is rape and murder a bad thing?
Unless I was a Viking, yes I see it as immoral. Yes, atheist are capable of morals.

Are there things that just shouldn't be done by humans?
Yes. Lying (Bible), killing for no apparent reason (Crusades) and copying without sighting source (Flood, Jesus, Ten Commandments), also called plagarism.
