Not true. The terms 'distinct' and 'separate' are not synonymous. If the Son/Word is separate from the Father as well as distinct from the Father then that means that there is more than one Absolute Reality (a metaphysical contradiction in terms) not to mention that YHWH would also be a hypocritical liar (Isa.43:10-13; 44:6-8) since the Scriptures ascribe Divinity to the Son just as they ascribe Divinity to the Father (see my earlier posts on this thread for references)?
If you try to understand it from our limited human's understanding of physics and reality, then yes, this does not make sense. But The Son/Word is separate, distinct, and at the same time, one and the same God.

Otherwise, if you were to follow the limited logic of our human concept of physical reality, then you would also have to say that when Jesus Christ was a man living on the Earth, then the Father and Spirit was physically located on the very spot where Jesus was standing and not omnipresent "in the heavens".

On the contrary, when people were looking up the physical form of Jesus, they were indeed looking upon God because Jesus is God, but God the Father is not Jesus, but distinct and separate. This is evident in Jesus' actions and words too when he prays to the Father, says he doesn't know the Father's plan, when he sits at the right hand to the Father (not sit as the Father), when he will send the Spirit, etc.

Some people use the water/ice analogy, some people use the different roles of a single individual, and some use the analogy of a person with multiple personalities. But they all fail to really explain what this is like, and likewise, we may not even have the words to properly describe the nature of God and how the Father, Son, and Spirit exist separately and as a single God.

The study of the Scriptures simply to increase one's knowledge or for their own sake (so that one's life and the study of the Scriptures become synonymous) is a sin.

Simonline.

Simonline,

Can you explain, please? I am working with a self-professed apostate who is extremely intelligent and still studies the Scriptures. If you can give me scriptures, that would be wonderful...

I think of the Scripture by the Lord:

~Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me~
John 5:39

so are you meaning that by studying the scriptures for your own self benefit and not for the benefit of understanding and loving our Lord would be a sin? I guess that makes sense becuz you dont really understand what the scriptures mean unless you have the connection with God to reveal his wisdom...

wow thats some heavy stuff! Took me a few times to read it and comprehend...but i got it! I never really knew how in depth all this is....i'm very interested...i read the bible, but i dont get that type of knowledge coming to me....its wisdom far past what i have...but to get that wisdom i think i should study some background info....

so is this what apologetics means? sorry i dont know all the terminology...ive got the basics though! My relationship....but i want it to be as strong as possible, and be as close to YHWH....is that called yahweh? or no... i feel sheepish becuz i know so little of the theology...but i want to know more! I just want to make sure that the studies i do read are credable and not misleading...you suggested someone...i'll check it out. Thanks for taking the time to give all this information, everyone thank you.

If you think you say to much... :p But i really do appreciate it....its an answer to prayers! I will check out those sources and get myself an new book! I want to be a sponge for God and then blossom into what Hes called me to be...so please share all you can! But i have read alot of debates on here that seem to go in circles, or are just splitting hairs and such...i dont want that, i want some truth and something solid. I have read alot about some of the places that God talks about, but wonder where in relation to today that they are...so i will check out unlocking the bible omnibus and get some serious knowledge! I'm so excited! Thank you again for using your wisdom to help me!

your sister in Christ,

I believe it was God the Father and God the Son. Perhaps it was all three of the Trinity - the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
Great job! I dont think I could do any better. Sweet and simple :papapa:

(heads up i dont really know how to multi-quote)

but boy have you ever...i'm itching to get that book! I've already done some research on David Pawson and read some reviews...they actually are selling it at barnes&noble for only $20! I'm there to pick that up later, hopefully today.

I have a friend that falls directly into line with those traits...and he is so ridiculously stubborn and really reminds me of the proverb 23:9 (message version) "Dont bother talking sense to fools; they'll only poke fun at your words." And its so true its such a waste of time and they just grab on to one word and twist it! I dont think i'm ready to discuss with people that arent already on fire for God, it can be frustrating.

Which i guess is why God calls us to live for him so others can see...but i want more than that. I want to be great for him, and really help others and be used by him to make an impact... I want to be undivided for YHWH, my God, in love with Him like King David was...(David means beloved...and so does my name...Amanda :) )

What i meant by being a sponge for God, is that I want him to expand my mind, and knowledge and wisdom, but i only want to absorb what is of God, not of man. I want to truly know what the proverbs mean when saying to get wisdom, knowledge, and insight over money or possesions.

I do find all this very interesting, and i want to study the Bible for what it says, not what we believe it says. Who knows, maybe God would have me go to college to study...i would love that as i never had the means to go... That way i can have some solid information behind me. But of course I dont have to go to school to study...i've got the best Teacher ever! And mentors too (like you! haha you've been officially signed up :) )

I do have a question though, Is there any more significance in who we talk to? Like i talk to God all day, but does it make a difference if I talk to Jesus... i dont think i'm explaining it right.....I know that they are one, but distinct....so when i read that Jesus is acting as the priest between us and God, is that meaning that we are to speak to him, or just he is the gateway to the Father? I almost feel like i should be taking the time to talk to them separately, The Father and Son.... its silly i know, but still I love them all but separately too... (i hope that made sense...didnt come out the way i intended lol) so i want to spend time with them as they are distinct so i can understand that as much as possible and come to know them the same yet differently...

oo, i have a good question: God says he chose Israel over the other families in the world... Amos 3:2 "Out of all the families on earth, I picked you. Therefore, because of your special calling,I'm holding you responsible for all your sins." So i've never really understood if God chooses who is going to be part of his body....But i'm not an israelite so maybe hes referring to all of Christ's body?

No, it is not silly at all. Sometimes I take the time to praise and thank Them Each separately for Their individual love, work and blessings in my life and also for Who they are.

I believe They love it.

btw...Thank you for your kind words to me earlier....
