  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I wonder why there isnt a separate category for Orthodox ?... I am an Orthodox after my parents and i'm astonished that you didnt create one ... It's important you know ...
By the way... I am from Romania but some people that i know moved in States a few years ago and they told me that many Americans are changing their religion to Orthodox ... why is that?

My opinion is that the Orthodox religion isnt that strict like other religions ...

Sorry for my bad English :p

OHHH sorry i've managed to find it SORRY I hope i didnt disturbed something ... sorry.
Anyway we can still discuss the problem with Americans and orthodox.

I think many americans want to be orthodox becuase it leaves a lot of mystery to God. It doesn't attempt to be well defined in a neat package like other traditions such as reformed and lutheran.

I want to visit a EO church soon, I want to see what I can learn from our greek brothers.

I find much to admire in Orthodoxy... which btw, does have two of its own forums on CF. They're called The Ancient Way (for Eastern Orthodoxy) and The Voice In The Desert (for Oriental Orthodoxy), both of them in the Congregation section.

Like NG, I also plan to visit my local Greek Orthodox church soon. Why Greek Orthodox in particular? Only because that's the one closest to me. Its a small one, and I understand its about 50% converts, so it shouldn't seem too foreign to me.

We have two Orthodox Christian forums here, I believe since you are from Romania you will want the Ancient Way forum.

I have read several articles that Orthodoxy is the fastest growing religion in America due to converts from Protestantism. My wife and I converted to Orthodoxy last year. I think Orthodoxy has an appeal in that it is the original Church that Americans want to restablish a connection with and it also has in many ways both a modern "liberal" Christian view and a "conservative" Christian view in the same package.
