• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey everyone,

I have another question about OCD.

From your knowledge/experience with OCD, tell me if this is typical for an OCD sufferer:

There will be a period of time, when I am feeling that constant feeling of anxiety/doubt/fear/uncertainty "simmering" in the back of my mind/wherever (see my other post - "'Simmering' Feeling" for more detail) when all of a sudden, at times, it seems that that feeling simply goes away. This lack of such a subtle, low-key "simmering" feeling of fear/panic/anxiety/doubt/uncertainty stays for another period (although usually shorter) period of time, to be followed by the "simmering" feeling, again.

Another alternative of this scenario is:

There will be a period of time when I am feeling Full-blown fear/anxiety/doubt/uncertainty (no "simmering," subtle, low-key feeling of these emotions), and am feeling that panic, anxiety, and fear, in everything that I do. I will struggle with it for a period of time, and then, finally, again, suddenly, it will go away by itself, it seems. *Boom* The panic/fear/doubt/uncertainty/and anxiety is/feels gone/disappeared, for a period of (usually shorter) time; later for another period of time, the full-blown fear/panic/anxiety/uncertainty/doubt comes back full force.

OR, another alternative:

I go through a period of time where I am lapsing between this "simmering" feeling and full-blown feelings of panic/fear/anxiety/uncertainty/doubt, and then, again, all these feelings ("simmering" and full-blown) are/feel gone and disappeared, for another (although usually shorter) period of time. Then, these feelings ("simmering" and full-blown) come back for another period of time.

Note: When I use the phrase "period of time," these could go on for days, weeks, possibly months. I am not talking about the span of a few hours, although THAT is ALSO possible. But, note that the "period of time" could go on for days, weeks, possibly months, as well (from my recollection/memory, I think that the period of time lasting for days or weeks is actually more common).

So, any of these three scenarios could happen; I am not sure what is going on in such cases.

Is this typical for an OCD sufferer?

Or does something like this usually not accompany OCD and the mental disorder/disease?

Thank You, very much. (I apologize for making two separate posts, but I want both my other post "'Simmering' Feelings" and this post to be addressed separately--Thank You, very much, again.)

No, I do not drink alcohol.

And I do not think just because I described it in-depth, that it the length/complexity of the description I gave automatically makes it OCD.

What I wish to know, again, is:

"Is this typical for an OCD sufferer?

Or does something like this usually not accompany OCD and the mental disorder/disease?"

Thank You, for your response, Will.

As was mentioned you could be suffering from generalized anxiety which causes one to always be worrying over anything & everything.
OCD is more of a looping thought that causes one to doubt everything from thinking they've hit someone with their car to questioning whether they've committed the unpardonable sin.
& no it isn't unusual to have more then one diagnosis bcause you'll find that many overlap one another;) I do...& it is PAs, Obsessive Thoughts with Social Anxiety & some ADD.
