A question about Job.

I can show you that Job's three friends did wrong, but I can't find one word against Elihu. Not even one....

I did find one word, but it was outside Scripture. It's author? Brinny!

I said it was ultimately Job's fault, however God allowed it. If God didn't allow these calamities Job would have been fine, right?

Therefore God allowed it. The question is why?

The answer is:

Job 32:2 "because he [Job] justified himself before God"

Your taking some of these scriptures out of context. Job justifying himself before God is something we all do. Especially when your under stress in a trial and are angry with God because of your situation. Job was as human as we are and was very angry at what was happening to him. The book of Job is a very angry book. As Brinny said, God praised Job, that's why he proclaimed Job as a jewel of spirituality: "Have you considered my servant Job."

And that's true....

So if you want to blame, don't blame Elihu.....God partially removed His protection from Job.

When God removes Himself bad things happen:

Deut 31:17 "Then My anger will be kindled against them in that day, ..."

God's anger is not our anger. God's anger is his reluntant departure from those who become self-reliant - those who become proud. Let's continue:

"I will forsake them and hide My face from them, and they will be consumed, and many evils and troubles will come upon them; so that they will say in that day, 'Is it not because our God is not among us that these evils have come upon us?'"

So Job's problem's began when God forsook Job. Let's review this:

Job 1:11 (Satan to God) "But put forth Your hand now and touch all that he has; he will surely curse You to Your face." 12 Then the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him." So Satan departed from the presence of the LORD.

And the 2nd time:

Job 2:4 Satan answered the LORD and said, "Skin for skin ! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life. 5 "However, put forth Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh ; he will curse You to Your face." 6 So the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, he is in your power, only spare his life." 7 Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.

Notice is both cases that God allowed Satan to bring calamity on Job. So again, if you want to blame someone blame God, not Elihu.

You see God is about free will. It's free will with consequences. As Gal 6:7 states, "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked ; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap."

You see legalism is really a denial of one's need of Christ's righteousness. The legalistic Jews, time after time, rejected their need of Christ and sought to established their own righteousness. How do I know this? Romans 10:2-3

"For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. 3 For not knowing about God's righteousness and seeking to establish their own righteousness (which is self-righteousness), they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God."

Anyway, what eventually happened to the unbelieving, legalistic Jews? Right, they perished in 70AD when the Romans armies came in and destroyed every living Jew, with the exception of the believing Jews who escaped.

Why? Did God allow it?

Yes! Why? Because God will not force His love and righteousness on anyone. Since the unbelieving Jews persistently and ultimately rejected Christ He abandoned them and they died.

Christ tells why:

Matt 23:37 "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling...."

What weren't they willing to do? To place their faith in Christ's righteousness. Instead they sought their own.

Notice the phrase "not in accordance with knowledge". The Jews tried to establish their own righteousness. This is the essence of justifying one's self before God. This was Job's sin.

Now compare the Jews to Job:

According Elihu Job opened his mouth with empty talk; "without knowledge he multiplies words." (Job 35:16)

What were Job's words?

"I am righteous before God". "I am blameless".

So like the Jews Job sought to establish his own righteousness.

Then God appears and states the same as Elihu:

"Who is this that darkens my counsel (given through Elihu) with words without knowledge?" (Job 38:2)

But unlike the unbelieving Jews, Job repented:

Job 42:1 Then Job answered the Lord and said: .... 3 You asked, 'Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?' Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand.... 6 Therefore I abhor myself, And repent in dust and ashes."

End of story.....

This is another very important point about Elihu.

Not until chapter 38 does God speak directly to Job.

So the question is when did God give counsel to Job since He didn't speak to him until Job chapter 38?

Did God give His counsel to Job through Job's 3 friends? Clearly not because they too had to repent. See Job 42:7-9

So that leaves one person, Elihu.

Keep in mind Elihu claimed to speak on God's behalf (Job 31:6). In other words he was chosen to give God's counsel to Job.

It becomes an opinion when you prove me wrong from both Scripture and the book of Job. You must disprove what I've said. Then I'm wrong (and I might be), but you must prove me wrong. Lip service and your opinion doesn't prove me wrong. You must show me, Scripturally, where I have gone wrong.
