Erwin

Could you please gather all of the pronouncements and explanations
that you have made in these three threads into a new thread.

Thanks.

With all the negativity and political opinions that have been expressed
in these threads, I do not want to read through the thousands of posts
just to find a few nuggets that are worthwhile.
I am sure that others feel the same way.

Greetings Aria!

Nothing substantial has been posted since the announcement. Erwin was trying to answer some questions early on but he didn't stick around long, and I can't blame him, and nothing more was given. All we really have is the main announcement. The rest of his posts weren't substantial in the grand scheme of the changes. I hope this helps.

Except none of what you posted is a vision. It is an idea of how to accomplish the vision of uniting all Christians. This is his new of how to do it. No-one is excluded unless they choose to be. Nothing in what he stated in either of those quotes qualifies as vision it is means. You are [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]ing about the means changing when what Erwin has stated is that he is using a different means to accomplish his ends. Pedantry won't work here. He stated clearly the vision is uniting all Christians, as it has been, and you are upset about his methods. The vision hasn't changed and it's nice to see you haven't either. ;) Always trying to get your way. You got another petition up your sleeve somewhere?

Again, please take a deep breath and remember one of the primary points is to let the past go and start fresh with clean slates. How can one do that if others are bringing up the past. Okay?

Love, forgiveness, and a fresh start for everyone here, even if bitter, bitter things have happened in the past...

Erwin can do whatever he wants here. I am only asking he be honest about it.

This is not the Old Vision.
I think he is being honest and who can judge that anyway?

You know, one of the things we Christians are really, really going to have to work on is treating each other with respect. Remember that non-believers will be able to watch our every move now. How we handle disagreements can be a witness of Christ in of itself.

Do you know what will hurt the cause of Christ more than a liberalization of CF? Infighting. It MUST stop!

Did you miss this?

Or his statement of October 2005

Quote:
The moment CF drifts to become "too" conservative or "too" liberal, I believe that it has gone beyond it's vision, which is to bring
together all types of Christians, as defined by the Nicene Creed.

Of course I didn't. He has said he was going back to the original vision which didn't say "as defined by the Nicene Creed" that was added later. Nice try though. Originally the NC wasn't used as the creed so you can't assert that the original vision, which is what Erwin is claiming to be bringing back, had anything to do with the Nicene Creed. Another creed was put into place when a need for it was decided. Before that it was just uniting all Christians. So you are upset Erwin didn't pick the point in time which you agree with and I understand that. But you cannot claim, with any validity, that he is not returning to the original vision as the NC was not part of CF at the time. You are picking and choosing posts, out of context, which appear to prove your point but ignoring the actual history. You are good at this game but failing this round because history shows you to be wrong. The vision of the site was restated for those posts after the NC had been added. It was not used in the original vision. Good try though Steve. Sorry you couldn't manage Steve's playhouse with your petition. You didn't answer my question about having another petition though. Are you planning one? Your last one did wonders for CF and I have forgotten to thank you since you took credit for the changes already over at UC.

Does truth matter at all ???
Does error hurt the cause of Christ (Gal 1:8)?

Consider the words of AW Tozer in 1961:

"A right conception of God is basic not only to systematic theology but to practical Christian living as well. I believe there is scarcely an error in doctrine or a failure in applying Christian ethics that cannot be traced finally to imperfect and ignoble thoughts about God.

It is my opinion that the Christian conception of God current today is so decadent as to be utterly beneath the dignity of the Most High God and actually to constitute for professed believers something amounting to a moral calamity ... The man who comes to a right belief about God is relieved often of a thousand moral problems."

Whoa Cowgirl! Take a little bit of your own meds, okay? Again, lets let the Spirit of love and forgiveness be our guideline. It sounds as if you are rehashing something in the past, not that I know what it is or care, but that is what I am reading between the lines. So, let it go. He has the right to his opinion also.

Are you trying to make some insult to my mental health? Who do you think you are to insult me like that? And since you don't know me don't make any comments about "my meds" or any supposed rehasing of the past.

So, lets chill out, and let things unfold. It may work. It may not work. It is an experiment at this point.

Lisa

I think its a great idea for people to chill. However I'm not going to sit here while someone says things like Steve says and just not say anything. IMHO he is being dishonest.

It is not the vision that lines up with the point in history on which you have chosen to harp. The NC hasn't been around on CF since its inception. So your statement is provably false. You are just spiteful and angry that you didn't get your way. You happen to be good at using a point in time, as you have proved in this thread, to back your point but Erwin has been honest. He just isn't using the same point in time that you are using to define his vision for CF. For all we know it is a vision he never stated and got sidetracked by all the doctrinal bickering and people wanting to keep those filthy JWs and Mormons in their ghettos. I don't know and you quite frankly don't either. The vision, from the beginning, has been uniting all Christians as one body. At some point the term Christian was defined by a creed, then by another when the dirty heathens weren't kept out by the first. Prior to all that political nonsense there wasn't a creed in use. This is a return to a time prior to the one you have chosen.

Mark is right.

The NC was not part of the original vision statement for CF. Erwin may have mistakenly referred to that in 2005, but there was a deeper magic before the dawn of time...

ahhh... A.W. Tozer.... one of my favorite theologians.

It is disciples of Christ we are to make (Matthew 28:19) not disciples of ourselves, our churches or our denominations. Granted that in discipling we can hardly avoid transmitting our own truth perspectives. Yet we ourselves must keep in mind, and those we disciple, that truth is greater than our understanding of it. Gosh, no, I wasn't trying to insult you. I was saying "Take your own medicine" as in "Take your own advice". I don't know anything about you, but if it helps, I have to take happy pills on a daily basis, and will for the rest of my life.

Would some of you folks with millions of rep points give a few hits to Brimmy, please?

I have 10 whole points and I already gave them to him for another post. :)

Oddly, I've just picked up a higher post count. About five posts have been mysteriously added to my count. They don't show up on search. How strange.

Does error hurt the cause of Christ (Gal 1:8)?

Consider the words of AW Tozer in 1961:

Yes, truth matters. However, so does presentation. If we cannot handle our own disagreements without such bitterness and angst, how do we advise others who do not know our Lord?

To show others Christ, we must BE as LIKE Christ as possible. Being respectful will not hurt any of us.
