It sounds like hubby is doing better, I hope, I hope?

Yep, he is. Thanks! It was hard for him going on the trail to get to our little honey spot, but once we got there, it was great. A boat, though, he doesn't quite have the balance and strength to get in and out of yet.

For what it's worth, you are one of the kindest and non-judgemental people I've encountered on CF, mod or not. I'd back you for re-election any day of the week and I'm sure many others would do the same in a heartbeat.
Dear little one, I took you under my wing as I would my daughters, I've also made friends with many who aren't Christian, but their kindness speaks volumes to my heart, I pray I'm planting seeds.

It isn't those I'm worried about...it will be those who are ruthless when it comes to judging others and being in places of power. It will be those who have a hundred socks and get into places of power that could ruin any chance of fellwoship and learnings and sharing this site could still offer.

It's watching those who did there job well, being lambasted by those who had to be made to follow the simplest of rules, being tossed off staff for not being popular...as the rest of the site will not know them from Adam.

Sigh!

If a Church said "Atheists are allowed to take seats in administration, and we're democratizing the way services function" and people left, I would feel that is identical to a Church evicting everyone but their white members and having a fallout as a result.
You would be wrong in that claim. You could still question the wisdom of the move, certainly, but to suggest that the move was discriminatory would not be true.

Oh, okay. I don't particularly agree because they are welcome here and they are leaving of their own free will. That is not exclusive. In fact, many people are returning BECAUSE of this change.

I mean, if a church decided that only white people could attend, and people left over that, then, I would see your point. However, if a church said, everyone is welcome, and people left, then it is on them, not the church. Do you see what I am saying?

Lisa
Idealistically, inclusiveness should never make anyone even feel excluded, but in the real world... it does. As I just said in another post, I have been through two church splits. The good side is that two new churches were formed, the bad side is how many people were hurt by people they called "family."

Just something to think about...

No, but both things are ideologically based. CF's ideology has shifted in a massive way, therefore those who are left in the dark are leaving.

Wait and see. What is so harmful about letting people have a say over those things that affect them directly? Isn't that exactly why America was formed? Isn't that exactly what America is supposed to be about?

And yes, I know this is an international forum. But I simply don't understand why anyone would want to have a small few picked to reign over them with no say as to who those people are. Control needs to be fluid and it should be given to the masses, not the few elite.

We've seen where the "select few" have taken us and
the liberties they have adopted for themselves in seeking even greater control over the masses. It hasn't worked. It has lead to the back-biting, back-stabbing and in-fighting which has been CF. It has been a dismal failure.

Trying giving democracy a try. It might not be as bad as you predict.

You of all people are well aware of the incivility in the OPEN forums. Now think of expanding that for the entire site!

I am aware of it, I quit CF due to CF rules and now I am coming back. I won't reveal my username until I know for sure.

I for one support this change.

hmmmmmm

Does this mean, I've gotta wait a few weeks before I find out?

Honestly I don't know. I also don't know if there is going to be a transition period between old and new staff...I just doubt that it will happen in the next day or so.

No one even knows how said "elections" are going to run. Many of us are mainly focused on making sure our respective forums don't go to pot immediately and then we'll simply exit quietly.

You might remember that the only way for atheists to take seats in administration is for the church to vote them into those seats. Is that where you'd choose to cast your vote?

You know, I find all this to be quite sad. Conservatives do not and will never have a monopoly on Christianity. I want CF to take a good, hard look at all the festering hatred people are throwing at the "liberals and unchurched" in the name of their god. Look at the way they castigate and insult their neighbors. For what? For Christ Jesus, who came to die for the sins of all mankind?

Get real. People are going on and on about how they need to "protect" themselves from the unbelievers. They say that they want to "witness" to us. And then they go saying such mean-spirited things.

I displayed an Anabaptist icon for most of my time on CF. I preached a message of love and respect for all god's creation. And you know what? People listened. I cannot even begin to try to tell you guys how many times people have told me that I restored their faith in Christians, Christianity, or even Christ himself by the sheer power of friendship.

This is the thanks that I get. If you lot are the true Christians, then it's a miracle that I deconverted when I did.

QFT and marooned for insight.

Forward to a better brighter tomorrow!

The mods should have been out among the people they had power over, getting to know them and conversing with them. If they haven't been doing that, they weren't doing as good a job as they could have, IMO. If they have been doing that, I don't think everyone is just going to forget all they've contributed. :)
