This is a decision made by someone for me. When I signed onto staff it was because I was under the impression Erwin wanted to run a ministry. This is why many of us feel betrayed; we've been essentially tossed out with the dirty laundry in terms of the vision we thought we were signing onto.
The old version of the forum was a decision made by someone else for a great number of the people here.

I believe Erwin does want to run a ministry. But he has now chosen a ministry with open doors and transparent windows instead of the old closed doors and darkly-curtained windows.

Perhaps Erwin simply got tired of the growing piles and piles of dirty laundry and decided to accept some ideas contrary to those who kept creating it.

You've gotta be kidding me! ^_^

I agree with the majority of what you've written.

You need to keep in mind, staff didn't create the system, we were stuck with it. I know I was one of the staffers trying to get things fixed - and the execs will confirm I was a thorn in their side trying to improve the broken and uneffective system we had.

With that said, I don't think the system that Erwin is recommending is the answer either.
I don't think anyone can take direct responsibility for the system as a whole.

Those of us on the liberal end bear some responsibility. We pressed for a lot of the legalism, at least to the degree that we kept asking for procedural safegaurds. We did so often because of the abuse and outright deceptiveness of previous generations of moderators. When you have mods outright lying, baiting members, and going after people for personal reasons, it's a problem. For those on the outside, one viable response is to press for rules and principles by which to hold those moderators responsible. We did that, and in many cases we got them. Add to this the shear number of people (primarily conservatives) pressing for rules restricting access to the subforums, stipulating what can and cannot be said, or who can and cannot use of this or that little icon, and you have people on both sides pressing for more rules. What you ended up with was way too cumbersome, regardless of its ideological orientation. The rules you had to work with were a joint effort by lots of people with no clear responsibility to any one person.

Whether or not Erwin's changes will help, I don't know either. But I actually doubt there will be half as much change in the authority structure of the place as most seem to think. It's still a Christian forum, and that alone will be enough to prevent most non-Christians from applying to leadership or heading into the Congregation forums. What's changed has less to do with what views will dominate the forum than the mechanisms available to express that domination.

You know? It was never the Nicene Creed that was the problem. It was those who claimed to know Jesus, but acted like the devil in GT.

So, whether we have the Nicene Creed or not, we are going to know who is Christian simply by the way they act.

so how is all of this going down in the staff forums?
i haven't seen any sudden drops in the numbers, but i do understand that there is now a week's delay between handing in one's notice and it's taking effect...

of course they will...it's kinda like when you went off to college...no one around anymore to tell you what to do.

You can do and say what you want, when you want, and how you want to do it with nor repercussion.

Welcome to Hell, my friends.

Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

Not really. It is not about being told what to do. It is about being treated like adults instead of silly children. It is insulting for you to assume that we like this change because we do not want rules or enforcement of rules. What we want is to be treated with respect. What we want is to be able to speak honestly with one another without looking over our shoulder to see if a "bad" mod is viewing the thread. Bad mod, meaning, their own personal beliefs are the ruler which is used to rap people's knuckles rather than simple enforcement of the rules.

I am quite shocked. I don't know what to think about it. I see some good things. A democratic CF would be really cool... But there are some things that I am not too sure will work out but we will have to see... There are just so many opinions on this forum that making every thread open could be caos. It is a vast dream though, I really admire him for that, and I love how He brings all the glory to God... whatever happens, may God bring this place where it needs to be... CF has always been kind of a refuge for me Erwin... you have done a great job so far and I pray what you are doing is the right thing. Lily00:angel:

If your logic were sound, there would have been no Jonestown Guyana, Branch Davidian incident in Waco, Heaven's Gate, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, etc.
Completely incorrect actually. The church still stands after all of those incidents. The church stands after the horror that was the Spanish Inquisition. The church stands after the onslaught of moral relativity. The church is still standing and truth has prevailed. You cite specific incidents and leave out the concept of the truth as a whole. Those are individual instances and the truth still stands. Even with those instances the church remains.

How do those victims rely on the prevalence of the Truth or is it the fault of orthodox Christianity, as well?
It is the result of a fallen world which we are told to be in and not of. We are commanded to be in the world. We are not told to hole ourselves up in private forums to protect that which needs no protecting.

Aside from actually answering your argument is a formal logical fallacy. It is appeal to emotion. It did not prove the failure of the truth but merely invoked emotional images that had, literally, nothing to do with the subject at hand. The truth is still true. Your examples do not prove the failure of truth but the failure of man.

I believe Erwin has the best of intentions with this concept, unfortunately he's not been around and involved with CF, so he really doesn't understand the ramifications of this reform.

Speaking as a former Debate forums administrator, I can tell you opening up that kind of influence forum wide as the strong potential to create mayhem.

Agreed. :sigh:
