Erwin did not say that whoever self-identifies as a Christian is, in fact, a Christian. He said that it's not our place to judge and tell someone they're not when we really can't know.
Nope, but they're probably not posting in this thread.Am I the only one who feels like interactions with people with viewpoints far different from my own really helps me to more deeply understand and put into practice my own faith and understanding of becoming Christ in the world??
If my faith is such that others opinions and viewpoints cause me to become defensive--then the problem is with me--and I might be far better off not being online at all. I find it far more fruitful in growing my faith and maturity ineracting with others who do not share each and every opinion and belief I hold...as that doesn't allow for growth or a challenge to deepen my understanding of why I believe what I believe.
What if we implemented weighted voting on a per forum basis? Assign a member one vote for each post they have made in a forum. That way, those who are most invested in a forum by posting in it will have the largest say in who moderates it.
A HEARTY amen and WELL said! I TOTALLY agree.Only people rule in CF. That's the problem.
Always has been, always will be.
That is because Erwin is not God, and he has effectively turned it over to those who have no respect for God, Jesus, or any other Christian who is devout.
In a way, Erwin has greased the squeakiest wheels and pandered to those with personal ideals of ethics that have nothing to do with either the Holy Bible or the faithful Christians for centuries.
This is modern world "Christianity; it is secular because that is the version that today's trends demand.
Erwin has made his choice. The rest will be interesting to watch. This is liberalism put to the acid test. And there just may well be more acid than ever seen before.
LOL! Now I've got it stuck in my mind! "....It's the dawning....of a newww era...."BTW I love the Specials too. I was singing "New Era" to myself at work today.
In my 18-28 group at church we were just talking about how more and more churches are becoming community centered, where things are voted on by the "people", rules are made more simple and less harsh. Where people come together to "discuss" religion and their interpretation, rather than being in a church to be taught from the Bible, the infallable Word of God and where rules are there and set by the Bible and are not changed. They were even saying that it's just straying more and more away from God and more and more on the "community" and to me that mirrors a communist society, which by what we've seen in history does not end well.
Members should not be allowed to vote on who's an supervisor or mod. It should be in place by the Admins and since this is a Christian forum, only Christians should be in the supervisory position. By allowing non-christians to take reign we are doing a dis-service to the purpose of this board... are we then going to be allowing non-christian to come into our church to rule over there? It is sad to see one thing told to me last night, then to see it happen here today.
There are plenty of "controlled" forums/message boards that fit what people want and keeping out the unbelievers and false teachers. For me, its nice to see an opportunity to discuss my faith freely with others and allowing others to disagree with me.I'll refrain from posting the entire contents of 1 Corinthians 5 and 6 here.
I cannot put into words how sad this makes me. By all means unite all Christians...but wiping out the line that tells you what a Christian is and then allowing the wolves into the fold? And trying to defend it with some half baked non Biblical ideal?
You folks take care. While you are doing that brush the dust off your Bibles. You are going to need it in the times ahead.
jtbdad said:]Why? if majority rules?
jtbdad said:There is no way to prevent it from being a popularity contest. That is exactly what it seems it will be. Additionally whoever has the greatest number will make the rules.
Yep and it will still be a popularity contest.
I would like to nominate Jack Chick and Fred Phelps I mean if they get enough votes they can be mods right?
Why not? If they have enough votes there is no reason that they cannot be.
The site no longer knows what a Christian is. Before you could check here: Be a Christian
LOL! Now I've got it stuck in my mind! "....It's the dawning....of a newww era...."
It's kind of appropriate with the original OP in the first thread
I've been around CF for a long time...3 years, I think maybe 4(I had another account that I don't use because of a stalker) I mostly stay out of debate fora because it is just not my thing, I don't find debate useful in any way- discussion, yes!-debate, no!!
It's nice to "meet" you!
WAR?
Onward Christian Solders
Now sing everyone
that verse those keep referring to is to know a PROPHET, not a Redeemed believer.Yes, we can know...by their fruit. It is in the Word. But anyway, I guess I am going to see how this plays out. Should be interesting. Going to learn to duck fast so as not to get hit by the......................mud.
Great PostWell, I've just read through this thread, from start to finish, has taken me hours, and to be honest I wish I hadn't bothered. As someone else wisely said, I could have stopped with Erwins first post. This thread is like a microcosm of a lot of what is wrong with CF, and you have to look over it and see, it isn't the much villified Atheists and Agnostics being hateful and generally unpleasant, it is us Christians dumping everything Christ did for us in the mud and rolling our sleeves up for a good old bloodbath. Makes me kind of sick.
I could almost forgive Erwin for reading this thread and deciding to forget about the new changes, forget about the old system, and just close the shop.
Erwin, I want to thank you for the courage you have shown to try something new, I want to encourage you in your efforts, I think what you have chosen to do is scripturally sound and much needed. You will be in my prayers.
As for the rest of us, it is time we all took more responsibility for what we say, it is time we stopped running to mods every time someone says something we disagree with, lets grow up a bit and deal with our own issues in a Christlike manner. Trying to silence those you dislike or disagree with is always going to be an excercise in futility, and I am glad that the attempts to do this on CF are coming to an end.
I'm excited to see how it pans out, I hope to help where I can.
Just on a last note, something which has struck me about some of the more reasonable comments on this thread - cf is a very different place to a lot of us. Most of the people on this board as far as I can see return to the same areas most of the time, the board is so vast it is impossible to get round it all. Because of this, when we have these discussions we are each trying to describe a city based on the few blocks that we know really well. Which IMO accounts for a lot of the different opinions people have about what might be best. The new local mod system will help with that. It will be a good and positive thing.
Finally, we aren't meant to have 'safe places'. We are going to be persecuted as Christians. If the worst we face is a bit of name calling and disagreement on an internet message board, then are we not getting off quite lightly?
There are plenty of "controlled" forums/message boards that fit what people want and keeping out the unbelievers and false teachers. For me, its nice to see an opportunity to discuss my faith freely with others and allowing others to disagree with me.
Our beliefs should be shared with those we have in common and with God alone.
Well, being a "wolf" doesn't depend on someone's religious beliefs and acceptance of creeds, but on someone's intentions when interacting with other people.I'll refrain from posting the entire contents of 1 Corinthians 5 and 6 here.
I cannot put into words how sad this makes me. By all means unite all Christians...but wiping out the line that tells you what a Christian is and then allowing the wolves into the fold? And trying to defend it with some half baked non Biblical ideal?
