  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A game: Have you ever...

This is getting very British. lol I presume a Paper round is what we call a paper route. I never did that but my oldest son did for a while.
I try to volunteer canvas for the Kidney foundation charity each year. In fact it is this month but as I have a cold and it is snowing like crazy here again I think I will wait till later in the week. Or maybe even after I get back from holiday on March 23.

HYE done volunteer canvassing for a charity too?

Many thanks for your prayers Jan
Something, is 'happening'

Yes... over the years I have sold RAFFLE-TICKETS for various charities
A younger brother was 'hard-of-hearing' after blowing out an ear-drum
whilst, clearing his nose
and I sold them for the National Institute for the Deaf
later for Cancer Research
The NSPCC _national-society for the prevention of cruelty to children
The Bristol Dogs Home
and more recently, for, Breast Cancer Research

HYE done volunteer canvassing for a charity too?

Years ago I used to canvass for the March of Dimes

March of Dimes Canada -- The March of Dimes Canada is a nationally registered charitable organization providing support services to people with disabilities, their families, and caregivers across Canada.

It was from that contact that I got into the Kidney foundation

Kidney Foundation of Canada -- The Kidney Foundation of Canada is the national volunteer organization committed to reducing the burden of kidney disease through funding and stimulating innovative research; providing education and support; promoting access to high quality healthcare; and increasing public awareness and commitment to advancing kidney health and donation.

It is the only one I do canvassing for but I support many other charities as I am led and able to do so.

No, but my son has...I've only eaten mussels and suchlike.

BTW Gratefulgrace, not intending to make it too British, trying to keep it inclusive....of course, as with paper-round/paper route, some things have different words, or slightly different expreesions etc.

Oh dear, I must be a backward mensch!
I didn't quite know what to imagine when I thought of stuffing pineapples
First, I conjured up a view of 'chunks' stuffed with 'something'
and having a form ...something like 'stuffed olives'

then I searched the web and came up with this recipe

http://www.tonytantillo.com/recipes/salads_rec.html#boats

looking at it, this, would be too much for 'two' persons
but could be lovely at a party... albeit, hard to serve ?

HYE... eaten a banana boat ?

This, is a plastic 'boat-shaped' disposable food container
a peeled banana is laid, the length of the 'boat'
chopped mixed fruit is spooned over and beside the banana
It is then covered with [at least 3] mountains of whipped ice-cream
and these are sprinkled with chopped nuts/ chocolate vermicelli
and a raspberry syrup
and then a glace-cherry is placed atop their crests

You could always use one peineaplle (oh dear typos again), Davbe and share it with Mary! Let us know if you try it out.
In fact, I think I'LL have to try making it

yes - minus the nuts! :D

hye thought of moving to a different part of the courntry you currently live in ?

Oh lots of times - I'd love to move maybe to the coast, in or close to the countryside - but even were it possible, I'm not sure that I'd want to move away from my family and grandkids, some of whom still need our assistance in some ways. Also I have some very good friends here. Also we do not at present have a car, so I couldn't easily visit them, or get back in case of emergency. Also my parents are old now, and I'm the only one of their children who lives close...I'd want to be at hand, just in case of emergency regarding them.

Have YOU ever thought of moving to a different part of the country where you 're living?

Following my divorce...
I took an apartment [private-sector] in Bishopsworth, Bristol
[£450 per month +service-expenses and tax]
I lived there for approximately 18 months

Miggles, had brought me here to GE
and there... my days were 'pretty-much' as I have, now [I am a PC]
I wasn't looking-for 'companionship' [didn't enter my head at-all]

I was still a member of another forums, and a member there
had, a friend who was struggling with her PC [Mary]
Well, this forum member, introduced us
and I spent over a week of contact, chatting Mary through various steps
this included an exchange of telephone numbers [landlines]
and many hours were spent with me directing her to folders
and enquiring as to what she could see there
That the computer, had serious problems... became clear

SOMETHING HAPPENED...
I didnt expect to see her again online
let alone, look-forward to hearing her northwest accent, again, and again
it fair 'cracked-me-up' to hear someone verbalising in a manner
that I have described as; sounding-like
the english-language has been beaten-up, with a sledge-hammer

Mary herself, says, that "sometimes I talk 'around my hat' "

My daughter Miranda, phoned me [here] and Mary answered
and Miranda 'heard' exactly that which I had found seriously amusing
"Dad, she talks FUNNY, it makes me laugh"

Well, as it happened, Mary FELL
for this polite and very helpful gentleman and I was so-taken
by this lady's appreciation /character / humour
and also, this 'version' of 'english' she used...
that we became good online friends

Over time, I learned that she had divorced 14 years previously
whilst I had divorced 3 years previously
That she had had four boys and a girl
AND one son called 'David'
and gradually, we learned that we had, a great many things in common
and 'our-differences' also, have usefulness in a relationship

What HAPPENED ? .....Suddenly there we are,
arranging and making visits to each other, 'bumping elbows' I 'called-it'
and then I have made the trip [182 miles, Northward]

It wasn't an impulsive move...
The costs of MOVING wasn't 'cheap'
I travelled with a confidence, that is akin to 'faith'
[iow: without doubt or reservation]

In July, I will have been here for two-years [what is that saying ?]
'the course of true-love, never runs smooth' [?]

But there we have-it...
When you have ALL that you need... you will still fall-short of happiness
if, that, is all you are concerned about
BUT, when, you are able to make someone feel [as-if]
they have just unwrapped you [as a present] the world spins-on

analogy: 'your kids faces [hearts] when, they unwrap xmas prezzies from you'

My reason for travelling

Have YOU ever thought of moving to a different part of the country where you 're living?

I have moved around quite a lot in my early life as an airforce "brat" Dad was stationed in many parts of Canada. Since marriage we have stayed pretty central to the Vancouver area and have been in our present city of North Van for a long time and our current house over 16 years. I don't know where I would move as it is lovely here. WE did briefly consider moving to Mexico last year. Now I think I would just rather visit and let someone else do all the work while I am there rather than setting up housefold and then come all the relatives to visit ha ha.. :)

Yes, and He is due all of my praise for His works in me

No...they're scattered everywhere...several in various parts of the world...I'd love to know how they're all doing though....As we also have moved around a lot, and also moved house quite a bit whilst abroad, we lost touch with a lot of people eventually.

HYE wanted to be a popstar or actor(ess) - or maybe you ARE one! Maybe one of you is a famous person, going incognito on these forums.

No, I'd cause chaos...wouldn't have a clue. Imagine being in the public eye with all the criticism heaped against one..it can be bad enough in private life. LOL

Oh, thanks for reps..and yes, I have looked on Friends Reunited, but all those people are scattered about to the four winds.

Have YOU ever had political ambitions

You're welcome. Sorry you couldn't find your friends.

I'm interested in it, in a detached kind of way i.e. no definite party leanings, but like you I think the criticism would be hard to take. Apparently my birth-father (I'm adopted) stood as either a MP or a councillor, so maybe that is where I get it from.

HYE been gliding?
