• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What a childish rant that was. The daddy in me wanted to swat him on the backside and send him to his room until he got a better attitude.

He calls God a tyrant who won't let him do whatever it is he wants to do. Well, boo-hoo. Then he exaggerates and misrepresents christianity, then calls those who believe his silly exaggeration as stupid and immoral.

A parent tells a child, you follow my rules or there will be consequences.
The government tells a citizen, you follow our laws or there will be consequences.
God says to His creation, you follow my rules, or there will be consequences.

Was he at least consistent? Did he also rant against parental and governmental authority, or was this something reserved for God's authority alone, thus making him a hypocrite at best?

I'd be willing to bet that if I had started copying his books and distributing them for free, that he'd suddenly want "thou shall not steal" enforced with haste.

Ok but does the father punish his son in pain for eternity. No. Does the government punish their civilians by living in pain for eternity. no. Does god put a gun to peoples heads and say follow this or you will suffer in pain for eternity. Yes.

That was not an argument. It was a rationalization for him to do whatever he wanted to do without answering to anyone. And it was based on emotionalism, rather than factual insight and logic. His use of Darwin and Einstein showed that he was trying to use their names falsely in order to promote his tantrum. Darwin was a staunch defender of missionaries, having traveled extensively himself. And Einstein, when asked if he believed in God, stated that yes, he believed in God as described in the writings of Spinoza.

The words he used showed that he was not trying to attack the belief in God through the use of scientific methods and terminology, but instead through sarcasm and ridicule. I've had first-year college students argue against the belief in God logically, but with him the message came through as the rant of a 5-year old child who had just been told that he was not allowed to drive the car.

No there is no pain in the afterlife. The wicked are simply dead and the righteous are alive without pain.

He spends a lot of time telling us why he would prefer not to exist, but the point his brand of atheist invariably miss is that his feelings on the subject tell us nothing about whether or not God actually does exist.
