A Call for Christian Action: Obscene Evil

Dear Fellow Christians:
With horror I found that my teenage son had been visting a web site Ebanned.net
that contains the most obscene and vulgar material I have ever seen even as an adult. This web site has absolutely no protection in place to prevent minors or the unknowing from accessing it. My son told me that he found it simply by searching for auctions on a major search site. Extremely explicit photos are the least of the evil found on this disgusting place. The web site has hundreds of auctions for dirty used underware, bags of feces, bottles of sperm and urine, used tampons, etc. All of these auctions contain explicit photos and descriptions. Large type proudly proclaim that payment for these items can be through Paypal, and that they are sent through the US mail service.

This web site is obscene by anyone's definition, there is nothing to stop a child from accessing it as my son did. I urge those serious about protecting our children and our family values to write your complaints to Paypal and the US postal service about allowing this illegal activity. Please also write to your State's attorney general and your representatives in Washington to get this filth out of children's hands. If anyone has any suggestions on other resources to help with this, please post them. God Bless.

Our comp is in the kitchen so whatever is on the screen is seen by anyone in the general area. All of us have accidently come across disgusting sites but we just exit them ASAP without stopping to get the details...

I don't know how you can prevent this but you can try some of the packaged software made to block sites you find inappropriate, don't know if they work all that well tho.

As you enter the Ebanned.net site it states the following in very larg letters:

WARNING: This Site Contains Material For Adults Only!

Meaning that if your kid is 18 or over, he can legally enter the site. Due to your reaction, I can only assume that he's not. Banning this type of site would be wrong, adults are entitled to enter such sites.
If your child, youngster, etc. chooses to enter one of these (many) sites, without your consent, well, they will find a way around it.
Secondly, if you're worried about what your kid is up to online, then sit next to him and watch what he's up to. Do not attempt to ban such amterial from the Internet, that's part of it's basic right and freedom.
Thirdly, even if by some miracle you did manage to ban this site in the USA, they simply move to mexico or canada and relaunch it. So what's the use?

Monitor your own kids, not the Net!

Maybe it's just a scam of a bizzare nature. I mean, who's going to report that they didn't get their shipment of used tampons?

Kind of reminds me of that one get rich quick scheme in Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. I would post it, but it would almost certainly get me in all sorts of trouble.

(I will say, however, that it is one of the quotes mentioned in the Internet Movie Database)

I think it's a scam myself too. It would not take the US postal service long to shut such an operation down. You can't send body fluids and such through the mail. You can get arrested for something like that. You can spread diseases like that.

Where am I? Frankly, I'm rather surprised by the responses here. As Christians we need to be pro-active in making our world more family friendly. The philosopy that obscenity is an accepted part of our culture is pathetic. The philosophy that we as adults shouldn't take every step we can to protect our children is worse.

1)This is not an issue of "Every body is free to do their own thing". This is not a site with a few photos of naked ladies, the photos and descriptions posted there are clearly in violation of the obscenity laws.

2)A "you should be 18" statement is not a protective measure to keep children out. A system that verifies age is a requirement. Secondly, that weak statement is on a "dummy page" the links from google, etc go directly to the obscene material and bypass that page.

3)"You should watch you kid". The site is now blocked on our computer, how about on the millions of other children's computers? Watching your kids is great, however, obscene materials in violation of our obscenity laws shouldn't be accessible to children in the first place.

4)Scam? I hardly think so by the number of people that seem to be involved there. Regardless, Paypal and the US mail are named with logos in the auctions, I'm sure they'd like to know that they are being associated with this obscene material.

I respect and admire you. Though a mistake was made you did not sit, embarrassed and ignore. You spoke out and are hungry for change. You are willing to go to great lengths to ensure the safety of child. Your willing to stand on the ledge, knowing someone may push you, but have the confidence that you can hold on. Without people who challenge such things our purpose seems pointless. If we wish to walk with the Lord, we must be brave as I feel the Lord is. He would not shy away from scandal and would never hide behind fear. I think you should stay strong and fight whatever you believe is wrong. Even if we can not defeat wrong doing, we may leave a dent. The Lord wants us to burn hot, not cold or neutral. I feel your anger and I understand your son accessing this site was a horrible mistake. Our children are curious about the corruptions of the world and if we do nothing, we only leave it worse than we found it. Maybe this happened to you for a reason. Maybe the Lord is displeased with such things and went looking for you ...

God Bless and Good Luck

I know you have people questioning your parenting, but I shall never pretend to be perfect. I see the challenge and I know you can meet it ...

I strongly believe God speaks to our hearts and lets evil enter our homes to promote growth and change. We are like soldiers. We often sit if the war doesn't come to our shores, but what happens when it does ... we stand up and fight. The Lord lets evil come to our doors because he is calling to your heart to fight. This is what I feel in my heart at least ...

Here is an idea watch your own kids. It isn't the govt.'s job to watch over them.

How exactlly is the stuff on that site illegal?

Great idea, watch your kids. Why didn't I think of that? While we're at, lets legalize child prostitution, release the pediphiles from prison, and open up sex shops and xxx movie houses next to our schools. After all, if we're watching our children, there is no reason why we should bother the government with enforcing these laws and protecting our children.

Explicit photos, movies, descriptions of people defecating, urinating, masturbating with household objects/animals, and extreme hard-core and fetish photos. Listing all this and more for sale and sending it through the US postal service. How is this illegal? It violates the community standards and the obscenity laws that the people of the USA have developed.

Unfortunately you posted in an area where non-Christians can respond. If you wish to limit your responses to Christians you might pm a mod to move it.

I would contact Paypal also and make it clear that you find one of their customers disgusting. Actually, I will do the same, as I use Paypal. Maybe if enough people complained to them, Paypal would quit accepting payment for them and they would have to use real credit card companies which check harder!

Invest in blocking software.

As reprehensible and deplorable as this site sounds, you really can't censure this type of stuff on the internet. Even Ebay has "adult" auctions and "my sister's underwear drawer" for sale.

Christian or not, bloody tampons and urine is highly objectionable to most people's sensibilities.

materials or objects containing bodily fluids like blood and urine are illegal to mail, it's considered a biohazard and such material has to be clearly labeled and marked as such - the U.S. Post Office also has regulations and restrictions as to what type of material may be mailed through personal and business use. The restrictions includes surface/land mail as well as air mail. People who do mail such things are typically in the medical profession and such things are clearly marked.
You can find that in those pamplets at any post office or even on their website, I deem.

There is also the age consent law pertaining to pictures of minors in sexually explicit pictures. There is a law that prohibits the posting of such pictures and even some hardcore XXX site owners have been working with the FBI to track down such sites and prosecute the perps. I don't know about you, but things like a picture of a 30 year old man "having sex" with a 2 year old doesn't suit well with a lot of people, including non-Christians. A line has to be drawn somewhere and even though XXX sites have some imagery I'm not keen on - those people are adults and can make their own decisions; children at a certain age and animals don't have that luxury.

I do agree with MrPious though that it's not up to the government to police children's eyes for their parents - but the government does have a responsibility to hold these kind lawbreakers accountable and how can they if it's not reported?

I don't know if it will help Spreefamily - but I remember www.cyberangels.com - they were on a Montel Williams type of show and part of what they do is work with local agencies to track down pedophiles that were disguising themselves as teens in teen chat rooms - they have other functions pertaining to the topic and if nothing else, might be able to give you more information. Failing that, believe it or not - just call the local FBI regional office in your city and ask them, they'll tell you what's legal from what's not and where to report it. I called them quite a few times to ask a bunch of legal questions pertaining to a fiction story and if they weren't sure, they gave me other numbers or references to try.

Spreefamily - I agree 100% with you :) If your son continues to go to this site, you can...

A) Block it from your houses access
B) Right click and block all images from the site...

I owuld also suggest getting Mozzila Firefox, or Firebird.. For they block 100% of all pop-ups :)

1. It's illegal in the US to send biohazard materials through the mail... but no one has provided any evidence that such things are being done. It could very well be a non-existent Paypal account. Lots of parody sites do that.

2. As for laws you folks seem to constantly miss the one thing that is most obvious. American internet laws only apply in America. Most of these sites are hosted offshore which means that, depending on the jurisdiction, they can do whatever they please. Go ahead... pass more laws, see how much good it does you. There really are other countries out there and, horror of horrors, they don't have to care what you allow. MAybe you should use porn as your next excuse to invade another country, considering how well that WMD thing worked out.

Watch your kids, don't expect the internet to do it for you.

Yes, this is correct. I would think there should be a way that the adult sites are inaccessible to just anyone. I have had kids do searches for school projects, and come up with some pretty bad stuff. We DO have a block on our computers, due to the foster children we have, but it is not 100%.

I put a block on my own computer - the one that comes with it about site ratings, because sometimes I will click on someone's personal website from a search link and it will wind up having porno on it; then the next thing you know - pop-up hell and mousetrapping. (but I have a pop up blocker now and I can't believe it actually works...lol)

Havoc is right about the U.S. Law being different in regards to pornography; but also if this website in question has a U.S. address and really is selling the material (as in click here to finish your order) then it can be reported and that U.S. address and those who may or not live live there can be prosecuted.
