Spot on and the theme of my sermon on Sunday. The Pharisees used their knowledge and obsession with the law to lord it over others. But really this was all about pride and power. Jesus by contrast loved people, he healed them when they were sick, educated them when they were ignorant, exorcised them when they were possessed and ultimately died for them to save from their sins. We always need to ask if we speak out of love for the good of others or out of ego and in order to magnify ourselves and our own agendas.

A merely political and a nationalistic church is a curse and not a blessing to those it preaches to.

The Pharisees are the ones who wanted to run the government, and its they who refused to give up lands for the Lords sake.

No use in even trying to figure that one out,refusing aid to children is different than refusing it to adults who use their children as a meal ticket.

Jesus said to bless those who use you, and do good for those who persecute you. He also said to give to everyone who asks you.

The point was that 'Rome' always persecuted the saints and tried to destroy them long after Paul's day. God finally took them to a place of safety in the 'wilderness' (what is now America).

Jesus wouldn't have sent the saints to America to war against the Natives, enslave the Africans, and build an earthly kingdom. That's not what the kingdom is about. You are confused.

Coming from an American, I know that warring against the natives and enslaving the Africans was wrong. I know that denying HC and food stamps to anyone is wrong. Even our enemies are to be blessed. That's what we are commanded. You are putting faith in politicians instead of God. If I have any feedom its because God gave it. You glorify politicians and say they gave us freedom and we should vote for them so they can keep us free. As if Gods blessing depended on our vote. God puts up nations and brings the down. Its not my vote that does anything. My vote is to do Gods will. He never commanded me to force the gospel onto unbelievers, or to divide the church over worldly politics. God commanded only that I do good for all people, even my enemies, and to pray. Nothing more nothing less.

Back in the 90s I worked with guys who had come over from Bosnia during the conflict there,one of them told me how his family was visited in the middle of the night by the authorities,they were marched out in front of their house,one of his brothers had been accused of disagreeing with the government by a neighbor,they read the charges and blew his brothers brains out right in front of the family....what government does does matter....only people blissfully ignorant of such harsh realities would say otherwise.

So that justifies denying food and medical care to people? Even our enemies are to blessed. You cant even give food or medicine without complaining. What makes you think you can throw guilt trips around?
