  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Uh, when you are at gunpoint by police you don't suddenly dart into your car like you are reaching for a weapon. That's why he got shot obviously.

Why wouldn't you, if that's where your license is? That's called "compliance."

And then after the police ordered him to get out of the car, he complied with that....and still got shot.

The problem was actually a poorly trained officer. "Show me your license" is an open-ended command that leaves half a dozen compliant moves.

A well-trained officer says up front, "Where is your license?" and then says, "reach for it with your left/right hand." That way there is only one compliant move to be made.

No that's not what was said. I can't quite make it out but nothing about "I.D." was said and the man's movement was very irregular.

Listen better. He says "license."

Because how fast they could shoot him. Cops don't like it when you get out of your car without being asked to. They tend to draw their weapons just in case in those situations.

He had already gotten out of his car before the cop said anything to him. In fact, he looks surprised to see the cop there.

Insulting the cops isn't a valid argumentative position. They were clearly right to shoot due to the man's odd actions....the exact type of desperate actions when a man is going for a weapon.

His license was in the car. He was complying without question or hesitation. The cop gave him the wrong command.

i posted two stories. I am talking about the other one.

Besides, you did not comprehend my post. I said neither were being arrested. Do you understand that?

He told them he had a gun and then went into his car without being asked. It's just dumb.

That is not reflected in the video. He is being pulled over for a broken light. Cops don't order you out of a car for that. He clearly got out on his own which is a warning sign to cops.

That's not what was said in the video. The GF said her BF told the cops he had a gun not that he was told to get his license.

That's not what the audio shows.

I don't care. I'm discussing the video posted where a man gets out of his car and then reaches into his car after telling the police he had a gun.

Are you talking about the video in post #4? The man says nothing. The police officer tells him to get his license and the man reaches into the car for it.

Tamir was pointing the gun at people. The cops didn't just drive up and shoot Tamir. They were responding to a person with a gun. A gun is not a toy even if it's a toy gun. And when you point the gun at a police officer, you're going to get shot.

No, he never pointed it at the officers. He never touched it at all. Even the officers' own testimony was that he never touched it.

Let's remember that Ohio is an open carry state. Despite what the call said--and any police officer will tell you that 911 calls are notoriously inaccurate--the video shows that when the police arrived they saw someone they claimed was an adult sitting quietly with a gun at his waist--perfectly legal in Ohio until they check his license.

That's not what is in the audio nor what his GF said. I clearly hear the word "gun" and that's exactly what the Gf said he mentioned having.

I've looked at statistics from the FBI. If you have proof that they are wrong or biased, please present it.

LOL, for starters, how bout presenting those stats, and proving they are correct is another thing altogether.

Being influenced by viral videos rather than facts is what has led to these problems.

Did you stop to think why those videos went viral? Also you speak as if them being viral is somehow a bad thing, or clue they aren't a fact...is that what you are saying? If so, why?

The video is the "facts" why would I not be influenced by it? And the videos didn't lead to the problem, the truthful contents did, the video just made people aware. It shows what it shows, a white man and black man in the same situation and both outcomes...pretty straight forward.

I must be thinking of a different story. I thought it was a kid with a toy gun pointing at people.

Every thoughtful person has examined the stats. There are in a dozen threads here, and all over the net. People who seek truth do research. How in the world are you here commenting when you have not examined the statistics?!

Videos are limited in perspective, and they not demonstrate motive. Also, they tend to make people who are already irrational, twice as much so.

The only talk about a supposed gun came from the irrational police officer.

If it has not been pointed out within the thread, the incompetent officer was understandably fired and charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature where he was released on $75,000 bail. The interesting thing about the very polite victim was with after the thug attempted to kill him that he was still able to display exemplary manners even after the cop handcuffed him for no reason.

Why would any rational person think that he was reaching for a gun when he was simply moving to comply with an instruction that was given by a police officer. Unfortunately for the victim he was black where if he had of been white then he probably would not have been shot.
  • NBCNews has an article where the ex-State Trooper has pleaded guilty to assault and battery.
  • According to The State News he received a $300,000 settlement.
If anyone has a link to any outcome to the trial then please post it.

I was being sarcastic.

Unfortunately, a good percentage of the U.S. population believes that you should be able to resist arrest, spit on law enforcement personnel, run from them, fight with them and break all kinds of other laws with no repercussions whatsoever.
I don't think anyone is suggesting anything of the sort. However, there are a few of us who don't think resisting arrest is a capital offense.

That's wrong according to the audio and the man's girlfriend. A mention of a gun was the first conversation, then he went into his car suddenly and he got shot. No big surprise. No wrongful police action. The man was just dumb in how he behaved.

I agree with the title. I said the same thing myself the other day. A kid was getting beat by police and everyone was horrified, but the kid was resisting. You could even hear the cops telling him not to resist. The kid was pushing the cop away with his feet. He got beat a little. Nothing serious, and it did look excessive, and maybe the cop should have stepped back and told the kid to get on the ground, maybe, but either way the kid was resisting and thats what you can expect if you resist. The cops dont play they react. Thats what they are trained for.

Anyway, i think politics is just more stuff to argue about. We are suppose to not resist, and if we get beat we are suppose to turn the other cheek. I know its not popular but its true. Of course this is a Christian way, not for those who are unbelievers. There is nothing to argue about. Submit to authority and try to turn the other cheek as well. Easier said than done i know, but thats what we are taught.

You have me at a complete loss; having seen the video well over twelve months back, where I have followed through with a number of articles and videos on the case, everyone acknowledges that the only person who screamed "gun" was with the excited ex-Trooper. Don't forget, the ex-trooper has pleaded guilty to a serious offence where he faces up to 20 years in jail. You might want to go back and check the video on post four and take another look at it.
