  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

God does what He does, because He is who He is. We begin with who God is, and then proceed to what God does. God’s Being is the basis of His doing, and not vice versa.

How did you arrive at this idea?

Actually it's a problem with those that look at other men to tell you what's in the bible rather than allow the Holy Spirit to do His job.

So when did the Holy Spirit personally give you the list of canonical books?

The irony is that our brother says that his hands are clean of Catholic and Protestant violence, but from what I read of some of his words, that simply isn't true. The seed of murder is in the heart, so the act of murder begins there.

“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Yes I realize when a brother backs up his beliefs with scripture it certainly bother those like you.

I believe God is more than capable of preserving HIS word. Unless you can prove me wrong?

Hebrews 1: 1 At sundry times and in divers manners God spake in the old time to our fathers by the Prophets: in these last days he hath spoken unto us by his Son.

Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness. . .

I wonder if you have read this scripture.

James 3:18New King James Version (NKJV)
18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

That doesn't address the question. How do you know what God's word is? Where did you get that information from? As just an example: Why does your Bible contain the Revelation of John but not the Revelation of Peter? Do you know?

When I asked for it. You?

The Holy Spirit hasn't personally given me a list of canonical books. What I accept as the Canon of Sacred Scripture is what has been passed down through the generations of faithful, believing Christians.

That is a very interesting question. In religious philosophy they often start with the attributes of God, omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence, eternal, etc. Then they use God's actions to show these attributes. Are they begging the question or are these attributes so self-evident as the only explanation for God's actions as to be sufficient proof of who God is? Might be a chicken or an egg sort of thing.

The scribes who Christ rebuked, they gave us the scriptures. They were however circumcised in the flesh, but their ears and heart were not circumcised. God writes his law in our minds and heart. Do you know what that means? Its God who gives the increase, not man. Man is nothing to glory in. Let he who glories glory only in the Lord. Its about Christ and Christ alone.

Creation demonstrates some of those attributes, so you might expect deism through creation alone. In order to see and understand more, we need to look at His actions, and to further understand those actions, His Word.

For instance, the cross of Christ (an action) doesn't give us much understanding without explanation found in the texts of scripture, but with explanation it can also be tied into the scarlet thread of redemption. It's not as simple as just reading a book.
