  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just a friendly tip... you may want to check your spelling and grammar before posting. I'm nice, but some other people get aggravated by horrible language like that. I personally had a hard time figuring out what you were saying.

On a nicer note, I watch anime for action, and for drama. Seriously, you can't get the action or drama you see in anime in regular cartoons. I mean, the stories are extremely well developed. It's like watching any ol' TV show. Just for the fact that it's animated. The stories can be incredibly deep, fascinating, funny, or insane (in an action sense), or a combination of these.

Some people don't like anime because of the... how do I put this, cuteness of some parts of it. You get used to it, trust me. It usually winds up adding emphasis to the part of the story. Like, say, when someone's extremely happy or sad in a non-serious way, they may show the person chibi-fied (chibi means small). Or, say the person is mad, they give them evil eyes or the little bulging-vein thingy. You usually see this kinda stuff more often in comedy-style anime than in the rest.

Another thing is, well, it's in Japanese. You get used to that too. As a matter of fact, you might as well go learn some Japanese from these shows, you never know when you'll need it. ;)

And, well, there's a whole bunch of other things that set anime apart from other shows, in addition to these. Some like it, some don't. Me? I like it. You? You probably don't. To each his/her own.

hey all. who watch it or what ever with it..

wot is So good about it?? i cant stand the stuff. wanting to knwo what drwas all you guy's towards it??

Love Simon!!!
it depends on the author/artist and story- this one can't stand a lot of it either. however there are a few gems that are worth tooking a look at;
Hiyao Miyasaki's stuff- Nausicaa of the valley of the wind, Princess mononoke, spirited away, howl's walking castle, grave of the fireflies, Laputa Castle in the sky are worth watching.

The manga Rurouni kenshin is worth reading, about an ex(?)-assasin trying to repent for all the people he was assigned to kill.

I like comic books a lot, but manga has a lot more character depth and plot. It's funny and there's something for everybody. I think another thing is the culture surrounding it. A lot of people read it and you read enough that you can have a least one series in common with almost anybody. They're fun. The art is amazing. The Characters come to life. I think it's like asking why people read or watch movies. You're drawn into the world and you can't get out :p

I love anime because of the creativity of the story lines.
I can't stand reading (with some exceptions) And anime puts into visualization what my imagination just can't do.
Fantasy epics, space travel, cool bounty hunters, sci-fi/futuristic technowledgy...
You name it, and I'm sure there's an anime with it.
Japanese animation (anime) creators do what American movie/entertainment creators just don't seem to want to do... be creative! XD
(I'm American I have a right to say that :p)

Personally, I've always been intrigued by it, and I've always loved the artwork, ever since I was about 8 or 9, maybe earlier. It's definitely not something I got into just because it's starting to become a fad. I liked it when the only real place to see it was on Sci-Fi Channel on Saturday mornings (during the mid-90s, long before the explosion of Cartoon Network and Dragonball Z and Gundam in America).

As for why, the plots are better, for one. For the last few years, most American shows have tended to be utter crap (I blame Survivor and all of it's half-baked clones for that; it made the distribution of genres, poorly-written shows, and Sturgeon's Law in general, run amok). Anime, on the other hand, is far more intelligent than that drivel.

Thankfully, I think American broadcast TV is going to get better now (it's going to be a slow process, that's for sure), but we still need to find a way to kill Survivor and the rest of Reality TV with heavy, blunt instruments.

I enjoy the fact that it combines the fantastic with a storyline that isn't for kids (or not just for kids). Plus it always feels new compared to junk thats been coming on network TV and the filth that you see on HBO and the like (that's not to say that there isn't filth in anime).

Like Qyöt27 said, some of us have been watching anime since before it was even on TV over here (not counting Robotech, which is a whole other topic). Back before the first Akira dub came out and everyone had a 23rd generation copy of Combustible Campus Guardresses (or whatever it was called).

It was just different. And some of us like different.

I remember those days... like Anime was something just barely in reach... *fades into memory*

I like anime because of the story and because they focus so much on the characters, which I really like. Also they deal with emotion and angst, more fields I'm interested in. I also really like the art, Japanese culture in general, the music, and the Japanese language. Anime has most of that in it, at least somewhat. And the bishounen don't hurt either ^_-
