Thers a difference between scientific and religious beliefs. I havn't looked at all the science behind whats happening exactly. But from what I have read, there seems to be a big coincidence of mass events that are supposed to happen at the time the Mayans supposedly foretold the end of the world.

Being a christian, am I to believe this through the religion?

Also, if this is some sort of real Armageddon, is it the same thing as the rapture? and are we supposed to just let it happen, instead of trying to survive it (like you may have seen in the movie 2012).

It would make the Bible a lie.

No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

If it were in 2012 it would be expected. Not everyone believes in a secret and special rapture.

I really wouldn't worry about it. Chances are the Mayans got the math a little off and the end of the world already happened. That time you had that close brush with death . . . .. ..

. . . . . well . . . . ...

I am sorry, you have been living in the afterlife, you didn't make it.

But seriously, no worries. I think a few more empires are going to rise and fall before the second coming. I thought America and Western Civ was going to go the way of Rome, when the great pretender took the oval office. It is beginning to look like there is hope for the United States to hold on a while longer. In any case, empires rise and empires fall . . . I believe we are several empires away from the end.

The bible does point to us living in the time of the end, This world will end soon.

If the ubelieving world is being primed for 2012 then maybe the god of this world has some plans for then, who knows. As for us just look to Jesus Christ and the truth given to us in His word.

Jesus says:

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. "But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
Mat 24:35-39

And Paul affirms:

Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

Seriously, I don't get what is the fuss with the year 2012.
If it is the end of the world, then it's the end of the world and no one cannot do anything about it.
As a christian, I think, we should be ready at anytime anyway.. isn't that the Lord's message?

As far as Mayan calendar, the Mayan actually never said that 2012 is the end of the world..
They only predict the alignment of sun with the center of the milky way galaxy will happened at 2012.
Does Maya calendar predict 2012 apocalypse? - USATODAY.com

Another thing is the book of I-Ching/ the book of changes.
I-Ching/ Zhou Yi/ Yi Jing also does not predict the end of the world on 2012.
They only extrapolated that a great change will happen on that year (perhaps a cataclysmic event of some kind.. albeit that it is transformative, but it is far from the end of the universe as we, christians, have in mind).

Why Mayan Calendar and I-Ching coincides? This is just a conjecture from my thesis, that Mayans were actually descendants of Chinese.

So, the 2012 phenomenon is actually not even backed up by those two calculations.
It is a misleading information that people spread around... just like Da Vinci's code.

When I was in my late teens, early 20's the hype was all about 1999/2000. Everybody thought the world was coming to an end then as well. Something that really put everything in perspective for me was talking to my grandmother during that time. She lived through world war 2 and she told me that everybody in her generation thought it was the end for sure.

Moral of the story is exactly what Jesus said. He is coming like a thief in the night and no one knows the hour or day of his return. The thing to do is live everyday like he is physically in your presence at all times and you'll be like the wise bride's maid who had her lamp oiled and was patiently waiting for her lord to return.
