If it is free of ethanol it has NO ABV lol. Ethanol is alcohol. You want to watch out for acetylaldehyde and acetic acid. That means it is bad.

Not moonshine. The bottle exploded because of over carbonation. Likely, not all the yeast was filtered out, or incorrect yeast used and the fermentation processed continued causing a build up of carbon dioxide, and boom!.

Yep, you're right. That's basically what happened.

Especially if the economy fails - in that case trade goods are literally as good as gold, and liquor is always in high demand.

Great idea. I can't believe my dad hasn't mentioned this, afterall, he's Mr. Survivalist/Resourceful.

An acquired taste maybe? I've only tasted it once, but I didn't like it at all.

I just really like strong drinks. Everclear is my favorite liquor, bacardi 151 would be second, moonshine prolly third. So it's just my preference I guess

Well Im guessing by forgetting the "m", you were thinking of methanol. This is not the same as acetylaldehyde. Methanol rarely forms in home brewing, usually from things high in pectin like grapes and such. Only then does it form in small amounts due to pectin having methyl esters on it that the microbes break off and they then combine with water to make methanol. I love chemistry.

Clearly, Methyl alcohol and methanol are the same thing. One is the common name, the other is IUPAC naming. (formal)

See that's one of the reasons I failed chemistry. The teacher and text both used a ton of synonymous terms that I had no idea were synonymous, and expected me to infer their relationship from some vague principles which I was never taught. Plus there was algebra, and I had the same problem with algebra (lack of the establishment of first principles before being introduced to larger concepts).

Could be dark ale or nut brown ale. It looks like it's been in there for ages...and that's ok as long as the air lock was sealed after initial fermentation took place - otherwise - I wouldn't touch it. And as there is no way of knowing...
