It worked because it gave gullible and desperate people the hope of a better life to come, when death was everywhere and people had ten children and only two or three survived they would cling to anything that might make their lives a little easier to bear, today people believe it because they are too lazy to look for the truth, Goddidit is their answer to every question, not that they do much questioning.

If it ain't broke then don't fix it. My dad was a Pediatrician for over 50 years. Human faith is actually very powerful. A lot of what the old fashion doctors use to use was the power of positive thinking and the power of suggestion. It was when this did not work that they had to seek other ways to treat people. That was when they developed Penicillin and vaccines. Which at the time were considered to be a miracles drug or miracles cure.

If the mother of four kids is dieing from cancer and we go in and pray and she recovers do you think we are fooling ourselves into believing that she is still alive and our prayer had something to do with her being able enjoy her daughters wedding and hopefully live to see her grandchildren? Or maybe, just maybe she found some inner strength somewhere so she could go through what she had to go through, endure what she had to endure and survive so that she could live to see another day.
