  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I would like to offer my response to some of the statements.

Watch Creationists Talking About Creationism - YouTube

First woman "I can't phathom coming from this little thing that crawled on the ground, to apes, to being human"

So because she doesn't understand it, it can't be real? So I'm assuming she fully understands Electricity, Gravity, Combustion Engines, Computers.
If she doesn't, then obviously none of these things can be real?
And we didn't go from Apes to human.... WE ARE APES... duh!

Ken Ham "Therefore WE determine what is right and wrong"

No, we determine what is right and wrong based on evidence.

First woman, 2nd time "I would love to encourage Mr. Darwin and others that feel just like him, to try God"

Mr.Darwin is dead. And he did try, so did I and so did many other non believers.
This woman does not understand reality at all and should seek help.

Ken Ham 2nd time "Reading Genesis you get the idea of a perfect world, no death, no desease, the fossil record is a record of death and desease. You can't have dinos with brain tumors and eating each other until after sin"

I really want to pitch my question from my other thread to Ken Ham regarding this.... No death or disease before sin?.... So why was a Tree of Eternal Life needed?

2nd Girl "I was raised and I believe the bible is fact, so if something collides with it, then it's obviously incorrect and false"

Spartans were raised to believe that any child born with a defect should be thrown over a cliff.... clearly this girl believes that is correct.

It gets me every time I listen to points like this, I really want to be there to respond. These comments and points are absolutely absurd and single minded and closed minded and obviously have lost touch with reality.

It saddens me.

In some, an intense psychological need will trump objective evidence every single time.

No matter how much objective evidence is available to people, there will always be some who think like this.

I know man, it's tragic, it really is. Very sad, and a little frightening.

My first thoughts:

The sampling of individuals in this video doesn't seem very diverse. Their thought processes and rationalizations aren't all that surprising either. If I went and found a bunch of Branch Davidians (if Koresh were still around) and interviewed them, I shouldn't be surprised that they believe certain things concerning what Koresh teaches.

Having said that ... listening to these people talk is like listening to brainwashed cult members.

For many years, I have viewed the major organized religions as "come and go" cults. One need not be locked up in a compound somewhere to be in said cult.

Although I know the point is arguable as to the difference between a religion and a cult, etc ... since semantically speaking they can have different connotations depending on use and those uses have changed over time.

There is no argument.

Well, some use it in a derogatory slur manner, or to apply to only specific non-mainstream groups, etc ...

Side note: the spanish word for "worship", as in worship in the church service, is culto.

Yes but people using the term in the way you suggest are using it incorrectly.
You and I both know that many people use words without knowing what they mean.

The word "Ignorant" is a good example. I've said things to people and they have called me ignorant, when I responded with "Ignorant of what?" they explain that Ignorant means being rude or mean.

Another misused word would be "Evolution" lol

The number of fallacies they spew is almost overwhelming. They somehow equate evolutionary theory with the concept of God no longer having the power to interact with them, and the universe being entirely 'mechanical'. These concepts have *absolutely nothing* do to with evolutionary theory.

I also tend to think there's an element of ego in there in terms of some people's need to see themselves as 'superior' to other forms of life. They tend to think of 'image of God' only in terms of physical features. :(

Not much of it makes any sense to me, particularly the way they tried to attach other concepts and other ideas to the basic theory that have *nothing whatsoever* to do with evolutionary theory.

They of *course* do not even bother to mention that they are in the minority viewpoint on the topic of EV theory, *even among other Christians*. All their commentary about it's effect on God are completely contrived, made up, and false according to *most Christians*. Frankly it's just offensive and ignorant IMO.

Yes I know people use words without knowing what they mean :) "Ignorant" is a great example ... evolution is another great example (evolution/abiogenesis confusion with people, etc).

People basically have their own "personal language" in a lot of ways, where words have wildly different meanings amongst subsets of the same culture.

I love what that last guy said, when he was asked if he had ever experienced mockery and ridicule.

He made the point that Jesus experienced the same thing, and that He said we would too.

Allegedly. Since he's not around and you weren't around, and the writer's of the gospels weren't around, and they copied each other, then lost the originals, but we have copies of copies ... I'll guess we'll never know, now will we. :(

As I've always said, we don't ridicule you because of what you are, but because of what you say.

So He wasn't mocked back then?

Why then is He mocked today?

What's changed since then?

Let me venture a guess:

The invention of the scientific method?

I don't know.

I have my opinion on the matter.

A lot has changed. For example, someone invented cheese spread from a can.

Ok, go ahead.

Er... if you say so boss.

I would say that most people today do not specifically mock Jesus, regardless of belief. I certainly don't, although I will admit I like the character of Noah more than Jesus. There are biblical characters I am not fond of that are supposed to be protagonists, such as Lot, who offered up his daughters to pretty much be raped to death. I think I might have been more ok with all of Sodom being destroyed without even sending the angels in than having Lot saved, or even his daughters for that matter.

True.

Also AV, you should keep in mind that while people laughed at Jesus, Galileo, and Einstein, they also laughed at Bozo the clown.

Did Galileo, Einstein, and Bozo predict we Christians would be laughed at as well?
