Wasn't 1988 the 40th year Israel beccame a nation
again? I heard that a biblical generation is 40 years
(or 70 or 80 years). That likely has something to do
with it. It's not a true date, though for tribulation.
Actually, what we need to determine is how long it
takes for a Biblical generation to "pass" (Matthew
24:34), which could mean die. A generation may not
"pass" until after 70 years (Psalms 90:10), so that
Matthew 24:32-34 could mean that Jesus will come 69
years after the rebudding of the fig tree, which
could represent the endtime restoration of the state
of Israel by U.N. Resolution in November, 1947. So
Jesus could return in 2016. This would mean that the
seven-year tribulation could start in 2010, so that
the seven years of the tribulation would be 2010,
2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016.
Daniel 9:25 could teach the same thing, for there the
Hebrew word translated as "weeks" is derived from a
word which means "to be complete", so that when
Daniel 9:25 refers to 69 weeks it could be referring
to 69 "to be completed", which could mean 69 years
to be completed from the time of an endtime
commandment to restore Israel (the November, 1947
U.N. Resolution) until Jesus returns. So we're back
as 2016 as the date that Jesus could return, which
would again mean that the tribulation could start
in 2010.
So Matthew 24:32-34 and Daniel 9:25 could be two
different witnesses to 2016 as the date of Jesus'
return:
"In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every
word be established" (2 Corinthians 13:1).
