Susan, when you refer to "immortality" are you talking about spiritually (everlasting life with God) or physically (our physical bodies never die)?  To what extent (if any) are you including plants and animals other than human beings in your question? Thank you.

My one question about young-earth that says there was no physical death before the Fall and that all pre-Fall life was basically immortal is this:
Why did God give His reason for Adam and Eve's removal from the Garden of Eden as such: that they would not eat of the tree of everlasting life and live forever?
From the context it seems that Adam, Eve, and every animal present would have had to have been eating of the tree of everlasting life (which it nowhere says they were) to be immortal pre-Fall.
I'm no scientist, just someone with a question. :)

Boy, there is a bunch of hubbub about this, yet it is such a simple question. It also has a simple answer.

Adam and Eve could eat of the Tree of Everlasting Life, and they probably did. They were commanded not to eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. After they ate the fruit of the forbidden tree they found themselves under the curse of death (among other things). They were now in the "fallen" state.

It was at this point that they were told not to eat of the Tree of Life. I am not even real sure that that was commanded. Regardless, when they were banished from the Garden, God placed the Cherubim at the Tree of Life so that they would not eat of it and live forever in their fallen state.

I hope this helped. God Bless.

Genesis 3

21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. 22 And the Lord God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." 23 So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. 24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side [5] of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
