I suppose at least it's only 16%, but I'm still baffled how actual science teachers could reject such a large part of modern science.

It doesn't say exactly what they are teaching regarding creationism/ID. But the ones that may be advocating it, I wonder if they are familiar with the fact that it's a violation of US constitutional law (that whole Establishment Clause in the 1st Amendment dealy).

Tightly held personal faith beliefs, is how they can deny well evidenced science. Still, most of these teachers did learn something, because the 16% is far below the average population.

The difficulty is, that in those parts of the country where there is no vocal opposition to it, that is what they are teaching in local public schools.
