  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What has this to do with ethics & morality?

I thought perhaps that rather than raise the usual divisive issues so popular amongst people who call themselves Christians, it would be nice to ask a question that anyone could answer.

If you lived 1000 years, you could do many great and terrible things but would they be worth it to you if you could never love?

My true love is God so it is definitely one year. What does it have to do with ethics? Everything!!!! Character isn't living 1000 years alone in my opinion.

Here is another:

Would you do any of the following for a million dollars?

-go to bed with a prostitute
-give up your child
-murder someone
-sell your soul

Yes

Don't have children, but no.
-murder someone
No
-sell your soul
I find it interesting that while I do not believe in a soul, it gives me pause to sell it. Hmmm....
Belk's answers in blue.

Love's just a biochemical reaction in the brain. Interestingly enough, it's been shown to be chemically equivalent to severe obsessive-compulsive disorder. Given 1000 years, I bet you that I could synthesise a drug to produce the same effects in any two people.

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate.

But chemical or otherwise, the idea of being forever alone is one of my greatest fears. While the idea of having a thousand years to explore and learn is very tempting, I think I would probably have to take the one year.

Picked "Alone". Dont have a true love, despite more than one marriage, girlfriends, fiances over the years, it dawned oin me some time back I never ever been in love so I wouldnt know what true love (in regards to it being "in love" as I understand the OP) was if it kicked me in the groin.

So I would rather be alone and go fly fishing and enjoy the solitude, peace, quiet, and not have to worry for a thousand years about leaving the toilet seat up.....:p
