You'll naturally overthink this sort of thing when you're 22. In a few years time it won't appear so black and white. And if you actually like a person for who they are, then you're probably better off being friends with them anyway. Romantic relationships more often than not come with a shelf life. Once the flavour has gone, you'll spit each other out.
Friendships, well. They tend to be more rewarding in the long run and usually, they'll last for life. I don't make a habit of pursuing romantic relationships with my close female friends these days, because it's just not worth it. The friendship wears a higher price tag than the prospect of a relationship. (This probably won't make sense to you yet either.)
