  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Does Christianity have anything to say about how the wealth of nations should be organized?

Namely, is there any Scripture to support or discredit the philosophies of capitalism, mercantilism, Marxism or socialism in Christian thought? Right now what I’m seeming to note is that the Bible’s advice on economics and finance seems to be prescriptive for individuals “the borrower is the...

The world is moving away from $US

The US dollar is collapsing – what started as a trickle of online and financial bodies espousing this, has now started to become more like a river. Why? The USA used to have the largest GDP – not anymore. That title now belongs to China and countries like India are rapidly catching up. The US...

Our economy is based on making a profit, so why

Our economy is based on making a profit, so why does the country overall make a loss every year? Yes, there is a difference between which party is in charge, despite the frugal desires of so many Republican voters, the Republican governments lose the nation more money most years (balance of...

    I have a theory...

... as to why so many poor and minority people refuse to comply with police, which ends up badly in so many high profile cases like the George Floyd and Daunte Wright deaths by police shooting. Don't get me wrong, Derek Shauvin was rightly convicted for what he did, and I am not defending any...

The U.S. is the only rich country in the world where the mortality rate has been going up, not down

Much of that trend is driven by men without college degrees in America’s heartland, according to Brookings. “Significant sectors of our society are dying prematurely from preventable deaths (deaths of despair) and almost 20% of prime aged males are out of the labor force,” according to a recent...

One must tear off one's own head

Way back in the early 1980s with Ronald Reagan Neoliberalism came on the scene in the US, with Margaret Thatcher in England and a multitude of different leaders in different countries. As it was explained to me it is the economic underpinnings of globalization, that a large part of every type...

    3 Steps

I have read repeatedly that successful people take their destiny into their own hands and do not blame the World or their parents. But correlation is not causality and there are a few flaws in using these factoids in place of actual wisdom. The thread 'Maybe it isn't all your fault' was not...

Maybe it isn't all your fault

My father in law stated that a lot of his wealth was due to having the wisdom to buy his house back in 1967 when the price was low, 13,000 for a large house now worth over 800,000. The property attached allowed the construction of another house fairly recently worth around 600,000 for a build...

'When I See Racial Disparities, I See Racism.' Discussing Race, Gender and Mobility Why is racism the only explanation for this phenomenon? Perhaps something happens to black boys while they are growing up that makes them less capable of succeeding in the U.S. economy. For instance, maybe...

A Selfish Argument for Making the World a Better Place – Egoistic Altruism

Put here because this short (7:14) animation shows why what has happened in the past is not a good enough template for the future of humanity. So, right vs wrong, ethics and morality. I post this because I agree with the animation. I have for many years thought that by working to bring...

Why are people convinced they are right?

In politics roughly half the people are of each opinion, yet although this is generally accepted, many people believe, after a quick glance at the paper (something short of a full and comprehensive collection of information followed by a dispassionate causal analysis), that they have the whole...
