The U.S. is the only rich country in the world where the mortality rate has been going up, not down

Much of that trend is driven by men without college degrees in America’s heartland, according to Brookings.

“Significant sectors of our society are dying prematurely from preventable deaths (deaths of despair) and almost 20% of prime aged males are out of the labor force,” according to a recent Brookings report, “Geography of Desperation in America.”

“What’s interesting is that Hispanics and blacks who started off at lower levels of life expectancy, they have continued to make progress. They’re not in the deaths of despair category for the most part,” Brookings Institution’s senior fellow Carol Graham told Yahoo Finance, adding that “The entire trend is driven by premature mortality among less-than-college-educated whites, mainly in the middle-aged years. That’s a pretty big marker that something’s really wrong.”

American society is rotting from the inside out ... the Lord is removing His protection as America draws away from Him.

It is interesting that people will simultaneously say "the US is rich, yet people are taking their own lives out of despair" and "economic troubles are the reason for many of these deaths". So living in a rich country is cause for despair? I think we need to look beyond economic considerations when addressing this problem.

Actually you notice that

"What’s interesting is that Hispanics and blacks who started off at lower levels of life expectancy, they have continued to make progress."

so if we go this route it seems God is removing His protection from white middle aged guys. Well, I am sure He has his reasons.

Or we could actually see what the report says like

"The highest mortality rates are most prevalent in America’s heartland, in states such as Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky, Brookings found. Those regions are precisely the places where the manufacturing and coal mining jobs that used to provide predominantly men without college degrees a lower-middle-class existence as blue-collar workers have disappeared."

and go with that, but if you want to get God being disappointed in middle aged white guys guees you can run with that too.

Excellent point, as people go with whichever one suits their tastes.

God is not a raciest ... our country's society is decaying as a whole.

our country's society is decaying as a whole.

That is pretty much your own view of the subject and depends largely on what your values are for different issues.

However in this instance we were talking about the OP`s article which clearly lifted up the middle aged white males as the group having ...mortality issues ... at the moment.

You are free to demonstrate that your country`s society "is decaying as a whole" which probably merits it`s own thread for the needed scope and depth.
